- Banned in China: Was one of the 39 movies to be successfully banned in the Britain during the video nasty scare. Even today the UK version of the movie is still cut by 2 seconds due to a brief scene of a rat getting set on fire by a flamethrower.
- Creator Backlash: Lead actor John Saxon publically denounced the film upon its release, stating that he was unaware of its actual content and didn't realize it was an exploitation flick about cannibalism until about halfway through its production.
- Follow the Leader: One of countless Italian splatter films made in the early 80's made to capitalize on the success of films such as Zombi 2 and Cannibal Holocaust.
- Typecasting: Giovanni Lombardo Radice (often credited as John Morghen) once again plays a character who suffers a gruesome demise.
