Trivia / Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019)

Go To

  • Billing Displacement: Despite Captain Price being prominently featured in many promotional pieces as well as the boxart, he isn't the protagonist, although he is still a very important supporting character. The actual protagonists, Kyle Garrick and Alex, aren't given as much spotlight in the promos as Price.
  • Distanced from Current Events: Season 4 ended up getting delayed as its release would've coincided with the 2020 Minneapolis riots, which protested police brutality and saw military action being taken to quell them.
  • Executive Meddling: After announcing Godzilla and Kong's involvement with the MonsterVerse crossover, Activision posted a list of stipulations regarding their portrayals — many of which were broken by the various MonsterVerse movies. For example, Godzilla cannot be shown running, jumping, or flying — the first two of which he was shown doing in Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong, and the latter of which is a reference to Godzilla vs. Hedorah. Even more bizarrely, one rule stipulates that Godzilla cannot be associated with the terms nuclear, atomic, or radioactive — despite his Breath Weapon being referred to as "Atomic Breath" in Godzilla vs. Kong, as well as the "Nuclear Pulse" he used to kill King Ghidorah in Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
  • No Export for You: Physical release on all platforms and any sort of release on the Play Station 4 were cancelled in Russia, presumably for antagonizing Russia once again, although this one is a rogue military general. It didn't help that Urzikstan, the fictional nation that is the center of the conflict, is basically an Expy of Syria and Chechnya.
  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor: In 2021, Activision fired and blacklisted Jeff Leach, the voice actor for Ghost, after he made disparaging comments towards female gamers on his Twitch stream.
  • The Other Darrin: Barry Sloane takes on the mantle of Captain Price, succeeding Billy Murray. The voice team even loved Sloane's audition so much they dropped the pretenses, scribbled on the script to use Price's name instead of the pseudonym they were using for audition purposes, and had him read the lines knowing he was auditioning for Price.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: Ever noticed that there are no Humvee's in this game? In 2017, AM General filed a complaint regarding the series' previous use of the HMMWV, claiming that as a trademarked product they had to give permission regarding its inclusion. This was resolved in 2020, when a court ruled in favor of Call of Duty on the basis that its use of the HMMWV had proper context and artistic merit, meaning that the Humvee is open to appear in future games.
  • Technical Advisor: Infinity Ward consulted with retired Navy SEALs Steve Sanders and Mitch Hall for both the game's levels and overall narrative, giving advice on how soldiers should move through spaces and react to a given scenario, as well as help create a story that would ring true to soldiers like them.
  • What Could Have Been:
  • You Look Familiar: In Modern Warfare (2019), Rudy Reyes lent his likeness to the multiplayer operator Sparks, making the MWII character Reyes a case of Identical Stranger.
