Trivia / Burning Rangers

  • Acclaimed Flop: This game received good reviews, but like the other games released in the Saturn's twilight era, it sold rather poorly.
  • Christmas Rushed: The game was initially planned to be released for the Christmas season of 1997, but the game proved to be too ambitious and many ideas had to be scrapped (see What Could Have Been below), causing the game to miss its deadline. Sonic Team was just able to get the game out the door at the end of the Saturn's life in the western market, but many fans of the game still believed it felt rushed, with complaints towards the collision detection.
  • He Also Did:
    • Takenobu Mitsuyoshi is perhaps best known for his work with Daytona USA, but he sang the vocals for this game's main theme. Dennis St. James, who sings the English version of "Angels with Burning Hearts", also provided the vocals for Daytona USA 2 outside of Japan.
    • Marlon Saunders, the vocalist of "We Are Burning Rangers", also sings "Unknown from M.E." and the acappella version of "Dreams Dreams".
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Burning Rangers has never been re-released on any other platform. It received a limited print run back when it first came out, and even if you're lucky enough to stumble upon a copy, expect it to come with an extremely high price tag.
  • Killer App: This game was one of the reasons to own a Saturn back in the day.
  • What Could Have Been: A prototype of the game was uncovered in 2021 that revealed that the original game was far more ambitious than the final version. It was originally conceived as an online-compatible game where four players could go on a rescue mission, but due to technical limitations, it was reworked as an offline game (the concept would likely come into fruition with the Phantasy Star Online series). Previews also indicated that Burning Rangers would have included a two player versus mode, but through a system link cable. Due to numerous limitations, it was scrapped entirely.
