• Actor-Inspired Element: Since Charisma Carpenter was leaving the show to transfer to Angel, she asked if Cordelia could finally kill a vampire during the final battle. She got her wish.
• Completely Different Title:
  • French: La cérémonie - partie 2 (The celebration - part 2)
  • German: Der Tag der Vergeltung (The Day of Retribution)
• Creator's Favorite Episode: Charisma Carpenter named this as her favourite episode, because it was the first time she got to stake a vampire.
• Defictionalization: A bona fide Sunnydale High yearbook was was released as a tie-in after this episode aired. It reveals the surnames of some guest characters among other things.
• Deleted Scene: This line, which was likely for the best, was cut:
  Xander: Guys, we blew up the school! It's the best day ever!
• Out of Order: The season finale was due to air May 25, but was delayed by the network nearly two months because of the attack on the school. The decision came about as a result of the recent shootings at high schools at the time. The episode "Earshot" was also delayed for this reason (though for a much longer period of time, until mid-September).
  • Whedon's verdict at the time was, "Bootleg the puppy."
• Throw It In!: Cordelia throws herself into Jonathan's arms as the school blows up. According to Danny Strong, this scene was an idea of Carpenter's, because she was leaving for Angel and never got much screen time with him.
