- Acting in the Dark:
- During production of season one, nearly everyone - including David Tennant himself - was Locked Out of the Loop concerning the killer's true identity to prevent potential leaks. Olivia Colman was one of the few people told early on, with most not finding out until The Reveal was looming.
- Almost all of the actors in season one took their parts with the understanding that they might be Danny's killer. Only Jodie Whittaker, who played the victim's mother, was told definitely that she wasn't (but she wasn't told who was). Acording to Chris Chibnall, "Jodie asked me around episode six of series one, 'Am I a grieving mother or a secret killer crying crocodile tears?' I told her it wasn't her, but only then."
- Actor-Inspired Element: Throughout the series, all the mobile phones used by Alec Hardy are all David Tennant's real life mobile phones.
- Playing Against Type: David Bradley makes a rare appearance as an extremely sympathetic character, albeit one set up to look like a creep.
- Throw It In!: "I just want you to know, I think you're a truly horrible person." Ironically one of the very few things about Series 2 that just about everyone loves.
