  • There were many, many clones produced in The '80s. Still to this day, in fact. Many users of mobile phones will find some form of Breakout as one of their default games (a child of the mid-2000s will most likely call it Brickbreaker after the clone that was pre-installed on BlackBerry phones that found brief popularity during that time, right before the smart phone boom) and there are numerous free versions of Breakout online. In fact, the act of cloning the game has an entire trope named after it.
  • Young programmers from the late 80's on were able to create their own Breakout clone in BASIC.
