Trivia / Board James

Go To

  • Acting for Two: In the "Video Game Board Games" episode, between Board James and The Angry Video Game Nerd. This also applies in-universe.
  • The Cast Showoff: It's a pretty safe bet that the entire reason for Bad Luck Bootsy's existence is to give Bootsy Spankins, P.I. the opportunity to write folk songs about board games.
  • The Danza: James Rolfe as Board James, Mike Matei as Motherfucker Mike and Bootsy Spankins as Bad Luck Bootsy.
  • Hey, It's That Place!: Some of the episodes take place in the Nerd's room.
  • Irony as She Is Cast: Unlike Bad Luck Bootsy, Brendan Castner is actually a very skilled gamer.
  • Prop Recycling: The caps that would later become Board James' trait can be seen in the Nerd's closet (the one in which he keeps the Atari he gives away to the kids) in the AVGN's Halloween episode of 2007. This foreshadows the revelation of Board James as the Split Personality OF the Nerd nearly a decade later when.
  • Series Hiatus: With the third season dubbed the "finale" of Board James, the series won't be seeing any new episodes for the foreseeable future.
  • Shrug of God: In the explanation linked below, James offers two different possible explanations for one of the plot points. He also refers to the period between the Dream Phone episode and BJ's AVGN cameo as "a foggy period best left unsaid."
  • Technology Marches On: In the "13 Dead End Drive" episode, James traps Mike and Bootsy in his basement by sealing off all escape routes with prison bars, and notes how the telephone probably wouldn't work since they were in a storm. Mike and Bootsy are unfazed by this and casually pull out their cellphones, which James then has to break.
  • Word of God: According to James, the "Dream Phone" episode was not intended to be the Grand Finale for the show. He announced plans on working on a new season to keep the show going, but the AVGN Movie caused a severe Schedule Slip. Fortunately, he was able to reactivate the series in 2015. James himself explains the NIGHTMARE episode here.
