    • This isn't the first time that Donnie Wahlberg played a cop with a female partner, all with a family. However, where Eric had been divorced with his wife and had one son, Danny's had been killed in the show and had two sons.
  • Actor Leaves, Character Dies: Amy Carlson did not come back for Season 8, so Linda Reagan was Killed Offscreen.
  • California Doubling:
    • Averted. The show is set and filmed on-location in New York City.
      • A teeny-tiny case with Frank and Henry's home, which is in Staten Island, one of the five boroughs that make up the city. The exterior that is shown is of a house in Bay Ridge, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, a different borough.
    • The pilot had some interior scenes that were shot in Toronto, although exteriors used New York City proper.
  • Cast the Expert: The show's technical advisor, Detective First Grade Jim Nuciforo (ret.) plays Frank's security guard.
  • The Character Died with Him: Lenny Ross succumbed to cancer right before the third episode of the final season. This follows on from the death of his actor Treat Williams in July of 2023, who was killed in a car accident. The episode was dedicated to his memory with a production photo of him and Tom Selleck prior to the credits roll.
  • Creator Backlash: Amy Carlson did not approve of Linda being the victim of a Bus Crash. It was her decision to leave the show, but she assumed she'd be invited back to give Linda a proper exit.
  • The Danza:
    • Abigail Hawk plays Abigail Baker.
    • Jim Nuciforo plays Jim the security guard.
  • Died During Production: In the French dub, Tom Selleck's voice actor (Jacques Frantz) died in March 2021, after the dub of Season 10. He was replaced by Michel Papineschi. The Season 11 premiere was dedicated to Frantz.

  • Spin-Off Cookbook: The Blue Bloods Cookbook, a collection of Irish type dishes that one could imagine being at the Reagans' table, written by series star Bridget Monyahan.
  • Real-Life Relative:
    • Jack and Sean Reagan, Danny's two boys are played by real-life brothers Tony and Andrew Terraciano.
    • In "Drawing Dead," Aida Turturro plays the shopkeeper questioned in an officer-involved shooting. She is a real-life cousin of Nicholas Turturro, who plays Sergeant Renzulli.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot:
    • Jennifer Esposito has coeliac disease and due to the condition, could no longer keep up with the grueling filming schedule required for her character. While the show writers were willing to work around it, CBS was not and told the show to write her out, a decision she was not happy with.
    • "Quid Pro Quo" was shot shortly after Hurricane Sandy hit New York City. The episode has Danny pay a visit at one point to a detective friend of his in the Rockaways, the part of the city hardest hit by Sandy. The shots of course being done on location in the Rockaways.
  • You Might Remember Me from...: Tom Selleck's role as Police Commissioner Frank Reagan is his first major role in quite a while, apart from a string of TV movies based on the Jesse Stone book series. He mentioned in an interview on The Talk that he took the job partly because the script made him cry.
