Trivia / Battlefield V

  • Executive Meddling: The addition of wacky cosmetics was a mandate from EA.
  • Screwed by the Network:
    • After the relative commercial disappointment and fan backlash against Star Wars Battlefront II (2017) for its aggressive monetization scheme, EA mandated DICE to rush the production of Battlefield V to compensate for the former's lower-than-expected sales. However, this led to the game releasing in an incomplete state, which in turn caused the game to disappoint both critically and commercially. Because of this, the game's post-launch support was run by a small crew while the rest were either moved to Battlefield 2042 or kept on supporting Star Wars Battlefront 2 with new content. Then in 2020, just 18 months after launch, EA ended all support for the game aside from keeping servers running.
    • Firestorm Battle Royale failed because of how it was neglected by DICE and EA. As the mode was locked behind a $60 purchase of the base game, it struggled to build an audience and compete with other BR games, which have gone with the more accessible free-to-play model. Not helping matters is that DICE failed to maintain Firestorm on a regular basis and the mode was released just 6 weeks after the launch of EA's other battle royale game Apex Legends, which ended up drawing players away from Firestorm thanks to being free-to-play and receiving more content. Subsequently, Firestorm became unplayable for many, especially in sparsely populated player regions like Australia and New Zealand.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • In the first trailer we can see more complex character customization with each of the four spotlighted characters having accessories, face tattoos, customized melee weapons and more exaggerated improvised outfits with the female soldier having a prosthetic arm. All of these options where reduced to just gender, face, helmet and outfit.
    • With the June 2020 update being the final one in terms of content, this meant that a handful of weapons that had previously been datamined, and even made playable in the single-player campaign, fall under this trope.
      • LAD machine gun: A Soviet prototype belt-fed sub-machine gun chambered for the 7.62x25mm Tokarev round.
      • Lanchester Mk1 SMG: Essentially a British copy of the MP28.
