Trivia / Batman: The Animated Series E51 "The Man Who Killed Batman"

Go To

  • Corpsing: Joker holds a funeral for his rival, complete with Harley Quinn playing Amazing Freaking Grace on a kazoo. Harley's voice actress Arleen Sorkin actually did the kazoo herself, and reportedly they had to do this bit (and Joker's follow-up line, "Well that was fun! Who's for Chinese?") in one take because the cast was laughing too hard to try again.
  • Creator's Favorite Episode: Mark Hamill has often stated that this episode has his favorite Joker scene where the Clown Prince of Crime delivers a eulogy to the supposed and dearly departed Arch-Enemy, highlighting the need of the Joker to have Batman. Which became Harsher in Hindsight when Kevin Conroy passed away in real life and, sure enough, Hamill responded with some rather touching last respects that would have fit right in with the Joker's.
  • Inspiration for the Work: Bruce Timm stated that the idea for the episode came when he and Paul Dini debated on if they could make a good episode where Batman was not present for the majority of it. Indeed, it is one of the most-acclaimed episodes of the series.
  • One-Take Wonder: Harley performing "Amazing Grace" on the kazoo was done by Arleen Sorkin in one take. In an interview, Paul Dini stated that it was fortunate that Sorkin was able to complete the song in one take, as immediately after that, she and the remainder of the voice cast also broke into uncontrollable laughter, and "we'd have never gotten a second take of it".
