Trivia / Bassie & Adriaan

• Acting for Two:
  • Bas van Toor played both Bassie and the crook Vlugge Japie.
  • Aad van Toor also played De Baron in "Het Geheim van de Schatkaart", but realised that playing two roles was hard to combine with his other tasks as director. Therefore, the role of de Baron went to Paul van Gorcum in the following series and Aad van Toor returned to just playing Adriaan.
  • While he didn't play multiple roles within the same series, actor Paul van Gorcum did play several roles in the franchise. Before he became The Baron, he played the director of the diamond museum in "De Diamand" and professor Chagrijn in "De Huilende Professor".
• The Cast Showoff: Bassie and Adriaan frequently get to show off their singing talents, since almost every episode of each series contains a song. Also; up until "het geheim van de Schatkaart", Adriaan frequently got to show his skills as a (former) acrobat, until he had to undergo surgery in 1986 which made it impossible for him to perform anymore stunts.
• Directed by Cast Member: Aad van Toor co-directed "Het Geheim van de Sleutel" and "De Diamand", and starting with "Het Geheim van de Schatkaart" fully directed every series.
• Live on Stage!: Bassie & Adriaan did a series of on stage tours throughout The Netherlands in the 1980's, 90's and early 2000's.
• The Other Darrin: several characters have been played by multiple actors over time.:
  • B2 was played by Harry Dikmans in "het geheim van de sleutel" and "De Diamant", and by his brother Joop Dikmans from "Het Geheim van de Schatkaart" till "De Verzonken Stad".
  • De Baron was first played by Aad van Toor, but Paul van Gorcum took over after one series because playing 2 roles was difficult to combine for Aad with his other duties as director.
  • The nameless crook boss was played by Paul Meijer in "het geheim van de sleutel", but because of health problems he could not reprise the role in "De Diamant" so Frans Kokshoorn played the part in that series.
  • This initally also applied to Robin. Robin is an animatronic puppet, but his voice was done by Guus Verstraete jr. in "de huilende professor" and by Aad van Toor's wife Ina in all other series. Because of this, Robins voice was notably different in "de huilende professor". When this series was remastered for release on DVD, Ina re-recorded all Robins lines from this series so that Robins voice would be consistent again with the other series.
