Trivia / Avengers Arena

  • Follow the Leader:
    • It's safe to say that the success of the The Hunger Games led to the book's green light.
    • Inverted with the Boom! Studios series Deathmatch, which also follows premise of superheroes being forced to fight to death; it appeared soon after Avengers Arena, and had been accused of being this for this series. Writer Paul Jenkins admitted he knows about Avengers Arena but hasn't read it.
  • Recycled Premise: This series' has admitted ties to Battle Royale and The Hunger Games, just with young Marvel Comics characters.
  • Trolling Creator: Marvel Comics at first, but the writer picked up the slack quickly. His phrase "I want them all to be Katniss" lives in infamy. Also, Hopeless went out of his way to emphasis that Nico was really dead... turns out (at least in Nico's) case Death Is Cheap.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Writer Dennis Hopeless said that he wanted all the Runaways along with some kids from the Jean Grey school for the book as well, however due to the already large size of the cast he backed off. Also, he wanted to use Kenji/Zero from Generation Hope so he attempted to either reverse the decision of killing him off or revive him in Arena (and then kill him again), both options were rejected. And before all that? This was just going to be an arc for a proposed Braddock Academy series.
      • Hopeless later stated this was actually for a proposed series about school created by SHIELD, and that the editor basically ignored everything else in said pitch except for a storyline about a sort of tournament between different superhero schools that got turned into a death match.
    • He also wanted to use Wiccan, Hulkling and Kate Bishop from Young Avengers, Quentin Quire and Broo from Wolverine and the X-Men (Marvel Comics) and Amadeus Cho, but they were all taken by other creators.
