  • Dueling Dubs: The 2004 film has two English dubs. When it was released in North America in 2005, the first dub was produced by Geneon in Los Angeles at Animaze. In 2010, after Houston-based Sentai Filmworks picked up the rights to the film following Geneon's shut down, a new dub was produced at Seraphim Digital for consistency with the second film, which was released by Warner Bros. using Seraphim. The Seraphim cast was mostly carried over to Funimation's dub of the TV series, as well as the Appleseed Alpha prequel (not released in Japan), leaving only the original OVAs (dubbed and released about 20 years earlier by Manga UK) without a dub with the Texas-based cast. While both dubs for the first film are on Sentai's Blu-ray release, their previous DVD release only contains the original Animaze dub. According to Sentai, they felt the audio quality of the original dub was too poor to justify being the sole English dub on a Blu-ray.
  • The Other Darrin: The series has went through multiple cast changes.
    • The 1980s OVA was dubbed in the UK by Manga Entertainment.
    • The 2004 movie was dubbed at Animaze in California.
    • Appleseed: Ex Machina was recorded in Houston by Warner Bros. The cast would reprise their roles for Sentai Filmworks's dub of the 2004 film, also recorded in Houston.
    • Appleseed XIII and Tartaros & Ouranos were dubbed in Dallas by Funimation, reprising most of the cast note .
    • Appleseed Alpha once again is dubbed in Houston, this time by Sony Picture Entertainment.
    • The Japanese cast for the series is much worse in this regard, being practically a revolving door with every new entry. Ai Kobayashi kept her role from one work to the next (being Deunan in both the 2004 film and Ex Machina) but even she got changed for XIII with Maaya Sakamoto. Kōichi Yamadera also kept his role as Briareos going from Ex Machina to XIII, but he had already replaced Jurota Kosugi from the 2004 film. The Japanese dub for Alpha once again changed Deunan's and Bri's voices to Yuka Komatsu and Jun'ichi Suwabe.
  • Real-Life Relative: The voice actors for Matthews (Chris Hutchison) and Nyx (Elizabeth Bunch) in Alpha are married, though their characters never interact with each other in the film.
  • Similarly Named Works: Ex Machina, a live-action film about robot intelligence.
  • What Could Have Been: After the 2004 film was released, plans were made in 2005 to show a 26-episode series by Radix called Appleseed Genesis in 2006, with Romi Park voicing Deunan and a trailer by Australian company Liquid Animation was produced in anticipation. After some delays, it looked like the project was ready to make serious progress in 2008... but then a major lawsuit erupted between the animation & production studios in charge of Genesis. The lawsuit wasn't settled until 2012. In the meantime, Genesis fell through and Radix ceased to be. It's possible that Appleseed XIII may have been a Retool of the original concept for Genesis with the episode count cut in half.
