Trivia / A Walk Among the Tombstones

Go To

  • Contractual Purity: At the time, one of many darker or different roles Dan Stevens took (along with The Guest) to break away from his wholesome period drama image from Downton Abbey.
  • Creator-Preferred Adaptation: Author Lawrence Block gave the film his approval, saying Liam Neeson had been his ideal Matt Scudder ever since he'd seen Michael Collins.
"I couldn't be happier about either the star or the writer/director, both of them genuine artists and brilliant professionals. My book's in good hands."
  • Deleted Role: Ruth Wilson was cast as Joe Durkin, a Gender Flip of Matthew Scudder's cop friend from the book, but all of her scenes were cut after the filmmakers decided to make Scudder a loner.
  • Dyeing for Your Art: Dan Stevens lost thirty pounds and dyed his blond hair black for the role.
  • Fake American: Liam Neeson (Irish) and Dan Stevens (British).
  • Playing with Character Type: While the trailers made it look like a Taken-esque action thriller, Liam Neeson is arguably playing that character...except in a neo noir setting, where he doesn't seem to know what to do with his life when he isn't hunting the bad guys.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • An adaptation was planned back in the early 2000s with Harrison Ford attached to star.
    • Ben Foster was in the running to star as either Kenny or Peter, but he had scheduling conflicts with The Program. He was originally hoping to do both films, if he got cast as Peter (as the smaller role would mean less worries about scheduling) but pulled out when Boyd Holbrook ended up in the role.
