Avatar: The Last Airbender / The Legend of Korra

  • Field of Innocence, Prince Lu Ten is such a sweet, kindhearted Big Brother Mentor that it's easy to forget that, while he doesn't buy into the idea that the other nations are inferior and is appalled by senseless cruelty, he's still fighting for The Empire bent on world domination with all his heart.

Cross Ange

  • Cross Ange The Knight Of Hilda: Inspector Schwartz stands out among his fellow police officers, since despite sharing the same prejudices against the Norma, he's clearly appalled when some of his colleagues are about to rape Hilda after they've beaten her up. He also expresses disgust when watching how Julio decides to humilliate Ange before executing her, as well as relief when she's rescued.

Crossover

  • In Avenger Goddess, while nobody on HYDRA can be considered 'good', during HYDRA's attack on Wakanda in the Second World War, most of the mission commanders genuinely believe in HYDRA's doctrine, but Fritz Klaue is a Dutch soldier who only joined HYDRA for the money.
  • In The Coven of Reformed Supernaturals, while the Coven as a whole are heroes, Leo Wyatt is the only purely good member of the group; most of the Coven are supernatural entities such as vampires, demons, a supernaturally-enhanced ex-assassin and an exorcist with a questionable history, while Leo is basically a guardian angel.
  • Fallout: Equestria: For a while after leaving the Stable, Velvet joined a group of slavers to try and secretly aid their slaves. In a group of cannibal murderer raiders, Velvet was the only one kind enough to gain the trust of the slaves and eventually freed them once Littlepip's assistance gave her the power to do so.
  • J-WITCH Series (Jackie Chan Adventures & W.I.T.C.H.): The four dragons involved in the creation of the Heart of Kandrakar were members of Shendu's army. They were the strongest of Shendu's dragons yet also the gentlest. While they pitied China's humans who suffered under Shendu's tyranny, they didn't go against their powerful master until Xin Jing begged for their aid.
  • In the Buffy the Vampire Slayer/The Chronicles of Narnia crossover "To the Ground", where Buffy has become a dimension-hopping troubleshooter for the Powers That Be, it is basically suggested that Aslan is this compared to the other Powers Buffy has encountered. Where the other Powers Buffy has faced just expect Buffy to help their respective Chosen Ones and move on, Aslan not only listens to her complaints about his treatment of the Pevensies and adjusts his plans for them accordingly, but reveals that even before she spoke to him he was always going to send her home after she had helped Narnia rather than send her on another mission.

DC Extended Universe

  • "The Beginning of Uncertainty" begins in an AU aftermath of The Flash (2023) where Barry's actions create a new timeline. In this reality, Kara Zor-El is part of Zod's army when it arrives on Earth, but Kara soon comes to realise that she cannot accept Zod's plan to destroy Earth to rebuild Krypton, joining her cousin and his allies in the Justice League (Batman, Flash, Green Lantern and Aquaman) to oppose Zod.

Godzilla / King Kong / MonsterVerse

Harry Potter

  • Exhibit A Snape is the only member of the Order of the Phoenix that has any standards.
  • The Parselmouths are, in-universe, two Slytherins who were eventually joined by a Gryffindor (mostly because the Slytherins wanted someone to do the work for them). Summarized here:
"We let a Gryffindor into our very evil band!"
  • Sirius Black in the dark!Harry fic Heir. Sirius doesn't support The Dark Side but he won't betray his godson.
  • In When Harry Missed the Trick Step, Fred and George observe that Terrence Higgs- the Slytherin Seeker before Malfoy- was actually a good player who never tried any underhanded tactics, could be fairly civil with other players when off the pitch, and only lost the position because of Lucius's bribe. This is all but stated to have been the case in canon as well, where Higgs is one of only two Slytherins who doesn’t receive any bad commentary from Harry or anyone else.
  • In almost every Harry Potter fanfic, the Slytherins are giving at least one student who isn't a snobby racist bully and Death Eater sympathizer. Usually an O.C. Stand-in like Daphne Greengrass.

Jupiter Ascending

  • In "Rise", Jupiter notes that Kalique is basically this as the only Abrasax sibling who hasn't done anything to her directly. While she makes it clear to Kalique that she doesn't totally trust her, Jupiter concedes that she needs Kalique's insight to better understand Entitled society, and Kalique observes that she'll find it interesting to see the impact Jupiter has on her culture.

Miraculous Ladybug

  • Cheshire (Miraculous Ladybug):
    • So far Cheshire is concerned, Bella Blue aka Emilie Agreste was the only Miraculous Holder friendly to her.
    • To the witnesses of Darkblade fight, Bixi aka Marinette was the only competent member of Misterbug's team - especially in comparision with King Monkey and Queen Bee.

My Hero Academia

  • Three Guys Go to a Bar(and then they Beat You With It): Out of the three students assigned to play villains, Tokoyami Fumikage is the least spiteful and least keen to take out his frustration over being typecast on his classmates. He's the only one willing to give Aizawa any benefit of the doubt, and takes the longest to really get into the role of assigned antagonist.

My Little Pony

Pokémon

  • Mergers: The Rocket agent Fiora, who genuinely cares about Pokemon and insists they be treated well, though it's downplayed in that she's still a manipulative schemer.
  • Pokémon Reset Bloodlines: Aurora qualifies as this for Belladonna's group. While Belladonna and the others have no qualms about breaking into places to steal and do whatever they want, Aurora prefers when they can get things legally, and for the most part she only follows them in their schemes out of fear of being left alone. Unfortunately, this fear causes severe problems as she doesn't speak up against things that she doesn't want to do such as when Belladonna learns about how her father abandoned her and decides to kill him, even though Aurora doesn't want him dead.

RWBY

  • Arc Royale: Both Jaune Ashari and Grimm Jaune qualify for Salem's side, but moreso the latter. The former would like nothing more than to kill Salem (which he has already done in two other worlds), but can't because attempting to do so would risk Emerald's wellbeing. Meanwhile, the latter willingly decided to stay despite also being completely against the group's goals and being more than powerful enough to just leave without anyone being able to stop him. He later reveals to some of the other Jaunes during a ceasefire meeting that the only reason he didn't immediately bolt for the good guys is because in his home dimension, Salem is his mother, and so he can't help but feel the need to stand by and support who he sees as a lonely and deeply troubled version of her.

Unsorted

  • Crimson Sky from Bad Future Crusaders, despite being one of Lightning Dust's Co-Dragons and one of the ponies who made Twilight Sparkle's coup possible, is a Father to His Men, kind hearted, and prefers peaceful action in favor of the more wholesale violence and destruction the air force is known for.
  • Heart of Fire: Bilbo Baggins, who wasn't in the room when Thorin Oakenshield had Kathryn tied up, is the only member of the Company who respects Kathryn's wish to try neutralizing Smaug without any violence when he converses with the dragon. Thorin tried to pull an I Have Your Wife gambit, but he had already made it very clear that he intended to kill Smaug, so he probably would've played dirty in the very unlikely event Smaug had folded for Kathryn's sake.
  • In a Jackie Chan Adventures and W.I.T.C.H. crossover Kage, Jade becomes quickly a Hero with Bad Publicity on Meridian due to bad luck and Nerissa, leaving her no choice but to join the Knights of Vengeance. In a later chapter, it's both lampshaded and discussed, with Raythor stating to "Kage" that she's far more noble and less evil than the rest of the Knights. In the same chapter, Blunk's sense of smell tells him that while the other Knights smell very bad, "Kage" smells "half good and half bad". This trope gets one more reference when Jade gives water to a seriously thirsty Tynar and he's amazed by her act of kindness because he would have been ignored or taunted by any other Knight.
  • Night's Favored Child: Marshal Silverstar seems to be the only member of Nightmare Moon's inner circle who isn't a self-serving Manipulative Bastard.
  • Compared with the original version of The Night Unfurls, the remastered version is rather fond of introducing decent characters that stand out amongst the group they are in.
    • From the Black Dogs, there is Boris, Fredrick, Soren and Oliver. All of them do not approve of how their comrades treat the dark elf prisoners, as well as Vault cooperating with the orcs, which is contradictory to what they have been fighting for. They end up joining Kyril, Olga, and Chloe in their Great Escape, abandoning the Black Dogs along the way.
    • From the council meeting in Chapter 11-12, we can see that Prim and Kaguya can be counted as such among the Seven Shields, seeing that they choose to abstain from making any accusations against Kyril, who not only killed their greatest champion, but also accused him of being a traitor, alongside his companions.
  • In Nobledark Imperium, the Void Dragon is said to be this amongst the C'tan. Sure, he's a Genius Ditz who will invent weapons of mass destruction because why not, but he's also the only one who actually took his position as a Necrontyr god semi-seriously. He only went through with turning the Necrontyr into Necrons because as a C'tan, he didn't have a soul/warp reflection and didn't realize that they were more than some sort of immaterial appendix. When he did realize what the Biotransference did, he confronted the other C'tan... which got him defeated and locked down on Mars.
  • In Sonic the Hedgehog fanfic Prison Island Break, among a team of Villain Protagonists, Silver is the only one who can be counted as having genuinely selfless intentions to his crime, and the only one who has no desire to commit more crimes.
  • Suishoku in Shining Pretty Cure. He's actually a pretty nice person from the start, he resolves to Never Hurt an Innocent (unlike the rest of the Shade Quartet, who pick up victims wherever they can get them) and the only reason he's even working for the bad guys is because of his devotion to the Queen. Strangely enough, it's not he who is moving towards a Heel–Face Turn, but rather, Amazora. Both are slated to turn good in the second half, and Amazora makes the turn first, with him coming second. The other two in the Shade Quartet follow suit right before they die at the hands of Meran and Korii.
  • Played With for Jessie, James and Meowth in Pokémon: The Series fanfic Symbiosis, while they are largely innocent and misguided, they are still just as dangerous as the rest of Team Rocket.
  • The Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch fic The Warmth of a Sister's Love has Johnny, a member of the crew of fishermen who inadvertently catch the mermaid Kyla in their net. While the other fishermen quickly decide to sell Kyla to an aquarium and make a profit, Johnny tries in vain to convince them to let her go free, befriends Kyla and sneaks into the aquarium at night to bring her fish, and ultimately helps Kyla's older sister Katiya and the Power Trio of Lucia, Hanon, and Rina break Kyla out.
  • Webwork: Widow is this to Jade's team of Gumo. While she's still a criminal through and through, unlike the others she has not just accepted her transformation, and only goes along with Jade's plans because she has literally no other place left to go.
  • Linda in the Death Note fanfic Xanatos is essentially a Wide-Eyed Idealist. For anyone familiar with the work this takes place in, this sets her up as the buttmonkey of the group. This actually makes her the one most likely to side with Kira, though she hasn't done so just yet.
  • Nobledark Imperium: The Void Dragon was the only C'Tan to actually care about the Necrontyr, and only helped turn them into the Necrons because it didn't realize that the soul is more than some sort of immaterial appendix (C'tan do not have Warp presences). The reason it's currently pinned down on Mars is because it confronted its brethren about what they were doing to the Necrontyr and lost.
