  • Barbara Soprano is born to "Johnny Boy" Soprano and Livia Soprano.
  • Carmela De Angelis is born to Hugh and Mary De Angelis.
  • Tony learns of his father's involvement in the Mafia.

     1968 
  • Christopher Moltisanti is born.

    1970s 
  • Richard "Dickie" Moltisanti, a Di Meo family soldier, is gunned down outside of his home.
  • Carmine Lupertazzi Sr. assumes control of the Brooklyn-based Lupertazzi crime family.

     1970 
  • Tony Soprano witnesses his father chop off "Old Man" Satriale's finger over a gambling debt; soon after, Tony has his first panic attack.

     1971 - 1972 
  • "Old Man" Satriale's pork store business is 'busted out' due to gambling debts by "Johnny Boy" Soprano. Satriale commits suicide soon after. Johnny Boy starts a Christmas tradition where they buy presents for the local neighborhood's children to improve the morale of the locals.
  • Matthew Bevilaqua is born.

     1973 - 1975 
  • Livia Soprano suffers a miscarriage.

     1976 
  • Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero marries his wife, Angela.

     1978 - 1979 
  • Tony Soprano and Jackie Aprile, Sr. take down a respectable Saturday night card game run by Michele "Feech" La Manna. Due to Tony being "Johnny Boy" Soprano's son and Junior Soprano's nephew and Jackie being Richie Aprile's brother, the two are given a slap on the wrist; they would soon be acknowledged as rising stars in the Soprano crime family.

     1980 
  • Harpo "Hal" Soprano is born to Janice Soprano and Eugene (last name unknown).
  • Giacomo "Jackie" Aprile, Jr. is born to Jackie and Rosalie Aprile.
  • Allegra Sacrimoni is born to Johnny and Ginny Sacrimoni.

     1981 
  • Tony marries Carmela De Angelis, his high school sweetheart.

     1982 
  • Tony "makes his bones" by committing his first murder on a small-time bookie, Labor Day weekend.
  • Meadow Soprano is born to Tony and Carmela in September, a week after Tony's first murder.

     1983 
  • Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero, a small-time cat burglar and family associate stands up for "Johnny Boy" Soprano during the conflict known as "The Unrest of '83" and gains respect within the family. He becomes a made man shortly thereafter.

     1984 
  • Feech La Manna is arrested on a number of charges and is sentenced to twenty years in prison.

     1986 
  • Anthony "A.J." Soprano, Jr. is born on July 15.
  • "Johnny Boy" Soprano, Tony's father, dies and Tony is made the capo of his crew.
  • Tony Blundetto is sentenced to seventeen years in prison for a truck hijacking he was caught on in 1982.

     1990 
  • Richie Aprile is sent to prison and Jackie Aprile, Sr. becomes capo of the Aprile crew.
  • Louis Gismonte, a paternal cousin of Sean Gismonte (who is mentioned by Sean but never seen) is sent to prison with Richie Aprile and works alongside him making license plates at New Jersey State Penitentiary.

     1995 
  • Dominic Di Meo is arrested and jailed just before Christmas 1995. Jackie Aprile, Sr. becomes Boss in all but name, much to Junior Soprano's chagrin.
  • This is a possible date for the beginning of Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero's involvement with the FBI. In hindsight, he is suspected of having worn a wire to the neighborhood Christmas party this year.
  • Tony Soprano smuggles Tony Blundetto's semen out of prison to father the latter's twin boys.

     1996 
  • Johnny Sack steps up as protege for Carmine Lupertazzi of the New York-based Lupertazzi crime family and becomes the Lupertazzi family Underboss shortly thereafter.

     1997 
  • "Old Man" Di Meo is sentenced to life in prison and Jackie Aprile, Sr. is officially made Acting Boss.

     1998 
  • Jackie Aprile, Sr. is diagnosed with cancer and begins chemotherapy treatments. Tensions between Tony and his uncle, Corrado "Junior" Soprano, start to grow.
  • Artie Bucco's mother passes away.

     1999 
  • Events of The Sopranos begin.
  • Tony Soprano suffers a panic attack and goes into therapy with Dr. Jennifer Melfi.
  • Artie Bucco's restaurant is blown up in an attempt to spare his business from being the site of a hit by Junior Soprano.
  • Jackie Aprile Sr. dies of cancer; a violent power struggle ensues.
  • Tony Soprano is nearly killed in an assassination attempt by Junior Soprano.
  • The FBI reveals to Tony Soprano that his mother manipulated Junior Soprano into trying to kill Tony.
  • Mikey Palmice and Chucky Signore, two soldiers in Junior's crew, are killed by Tony Soprano in retaliation. A hit is also ordered on Junior but he is taken into custody before he can be killed.
  • Numerous indictments are handed down; "Larry Boy" Barese and Junior Soprano are taken into custody.
  • Livia Soprano ostensibly suffers a stroke and is taken away by medics before Tony Soprano can kill her.
  • "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero goes into hiding when Tony Soprano's crew suspects him of being an FBI rat.
  • Tony Soprano and his crew decide the rat was most likely Jimmy Altieri, who is killed by Silvio Dante and Christopher Moltisanti.

     2000 
  • "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero comes back from hiding.
  • Junior Soprano is placed under house arrest. Junior is placed under the care of Bobby "The Terminator" Baccalieri's son, Robert "Bobby Baccalà" Baccalieri, Jr.
  • The now captain of Junior's old crew, Philly Parisi, is killed by Gigi Cestone under the orders of Tony Soprano. Gigi is incorporated into Tony's crew.
  • Richie Aprile is released from prison and is reinstated as capo.
  • Janice Soprano returns from Seattle and moves in with her mother, Livia; Richie Aprile and Janice Soprano soon get engaged.
  • Janice Soprano manipulates Richie into overthrowing Tony after a series of perceived transgressions on Tony's part.
  • Richie Aprile plots Tony Soprano's assassination along with Junior Soprano. Junior then informs Tony Soprano of Richie Aprile's betrayal; Richie is abruptly killed in a domestic dispute with Janice. Richie's corpse is disposed of at Satriale's Butcher Shop; Janice is sent back to Seattle.
  • Tony Soprano recruits Furio Giunta of Italy into his organization.
  • Christopher Moltisanti develops a drug habit while in Italy on business.
  • Christopher Moltisanti meets Jon Favreau and cheats on his girlfriend Adrianna La Cerva while in LA.
  • Christopher Moltisanti is gravely injured in an assassination attempt by Sean Gismonte and Matthew Bevilaqua in a misguided attempt to gain Richie Aprile's favor. Gismonte is killed in the attempt.
  • "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero and Tony Soprano hunt down Matthew Bevilaqua and kill him.
  • Tony Soprano experiences a series of disturbing fever dreams and realizes "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero is an informant. "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero is lured onto a boat and killed by Tony, Silvio Dante, and Paulie Gualtieri.

     2001 
  • Ralphie Cifaretto moves back to New Jersey after a prolonged stay in Florida and starts dating Jackie Aprile Sr.'s widow, Rosalie Aprile.
  • Livia Soprano suffers a massive stroke and dies in her sleep.
  • Janice Soprano moves back to New Jersey once again for good.
  • Dr. Jennifer Melfi is raped and beaten by an assailant who goes unpunished.
  • Christopher Moltisanti, along with Eugene Pontecorvo, officially become made men.
  • Meadow Soprano enters into a relationship with Noah Tannenbaum, which ends badly; she subsequently enters a relationship with Jackie Aprile Jr.
  • Tony appoints Gigi Cestone as capo of Richie Aprile's former crew; Gigi dies while on the toilet and Ralphie Cifaretto is subsequently made capo.
  • Ralphie Cifaretto inspires Jackie Aprile Jr. to rob a Soprano crew poker game to move up in the family; Jackie's comrades are killed in the attempt and Jackie goes into hiding.
  • Tony Soprano allows Ralphie to decide Jackie's fate; Ralphie decides Jackie should be killed and he is later shot by Vito Spatafore in Boonton.
  • An FBI undercover agent approaches Christopher Moltisanti's girlfriend Adrianna La Cerva to extract information.
  • "Mustang Sally" violently beats Bryan Spatafore in a fit of rage and jealousy when Spatafore is seen talking to Sally's girlfriend. Bobby "The Terminator" Baccalieri Sr. is sent to whack Sally, although he dies soon after a violent shootout in which Mustang Sally and a friend are killed.

     2002 
  • Meadow Soprano starts dating Finn De Trolio, a dental school student from California.
  • Tony Soprano gives Christopher Moltisanti information on the man who ostensibly killed Moltisanti's father. Christopher Moltisanti confronts and murders a recently retired police officer by the name of Barry Haydu.
  • Ralphie Cifaretto purchases a racing horse called "Pie-O-My"; he and Tony Soprano start betting on her with much success.
  • Ralphie Cifaretto breaks off his relationship with Rosalie Aprile and starts dating Janice Soprano before moving on to Valentina La Paz. Tony Soprano then begins dating Valentina La Paz without Cifaretto's knowledge.
  • Ralphie Cifaretto's son Justin is injured while playing with a bow and arrow. Soon after, Pie-O-My is killed in what is said to be an accidental fire. Tony Soprano suspects Cifaretto was responsible (supposedly motivated by the insurance money he received after Pie-O-My's death), confronts him, and beats him to death. Cifaretto's body is disposed of by Soprano and Christopher Moltisanti.
  • Christopher Moltisanti's drug habit worsens and intervention is staged after he beats his girlfriend and kills her dog. Tony Soprano sends Moltisanti to a rehabilitation center under the threat of violence.
  • Janice Soprano starts wooing Bobby "Baccala" Baccalieri after the latter's wife dies in a car accident.
  • Carmela Soprano and Furio Giunta develop feelings for each other. Unable to cope, Furio leaves for Italy rather than dealing with Tony Soprano.
  • Carmela and Tony Soprano confront each other over their respective transgressions in their marriage (Carmela's passion for Furio and Tony's many mistresses). They then have a separation.
  • Junior Soprano 'wins' his trial through juror intimidation, forcing a mistrial. Soon after, a fall in which he hits his head leads to symptoms of dementia.
  • Di Meo and Lupertazzi family relations worsen. Relations temporarily improve after Tony Soprano reaches out to Carmine "Little Carmine" Lupertazzi Jr. in Florida and legitimizes him after making him a voice of reason.
  • Adrianna La Cerva is made an FBI informant.

     2004 
  • Janice Soprano and Bobby Baccalieri begin a new life together, having married sometime between 2004 and 2005.
  • Tony Blundetto, Feech La Manna, Phil Leotardo, and Angelo Garepe are released from prison.
  • New York-based boss Carmine Lupertazzi Sr. dies of a stroke. A power struggle ensues between Johnny Sack and Little Carmine. Phil Leotardo sides with Johnny Sack while captains Rusty Millio and consiglieri Angelo Garepe side with Little Carmine.
  • Johnny Sack kills Little Carmine-associated loan shark Lorraine Calluzo for refusing to kick up to her.
  • Angelo Garepe hires Tony Blundetto, a close friend, to kill Johnny Sack-associated Joey Peeps in revenge for Lorraine Calluzo's death.
  • Angelo Garepe is killed by the Leotardo brothers in revenge for Joey Peeps' death.
  • An enraged Tony Blundetto tries to kill both the Leotardo brothers in retaliation, but is only successful in killing Billy Leotardo. Blundetto then goes into hiding.
  • Phil Leotardo demands Tony Blundetto be turned over by the Di Meo family so he can torture him. After a series of violent attacks on Di Meo soldiers and associates, Tony Soprano decides to kill Tony Blundetto himself and turn his body over to Phil Leotardo as appeasement.
  • Little Carmine surrenders any claims to the boss position of the Lupertazzi family.
  • Johnny Sack is arrested by the FBI.
  • Tony and Carmela Soprano rekindle their relationship.
  • Adrianna La Cerva tells Christopher Moltisanti that she had been an FBI informant and is subsequently spoiler: killed by Silvio Dante as a result.
  • Junior Soprano's dementia worsens; at one point he leaves his home and wanders the streets of Newark in confusion.
  • Finn De Trolio witnesses Vito Spatafore performing fellatio on another man.

     2006 
  • Sometime between 2004 and 2006, Janice Baccalieri has a child with Bobby Baccalieri.
  • A confused Junior Soprano shoots and gravely injures Tony Soprano, mistaking him for an old rival. Comatose, Tony is rushed to the hospital. Junior is placed in a mental institution.
  • Having experienced highly disturbing dreams, visions, and a near-death experience, Tony Soprano regains consciousness, surrounded by friends and family.
  • A depressed Eugene Pontecorvo commits suicide after both Tony Soprano and his FBI handlers refuse to let him get out of the life and move to Florida to retire.
  • Vito Spatafore is outed as gay; this is confirmed to Tony Soprano by the testimony of a New York mafioso and Finn De Trolio. In fear for his life, he flees to New Hampshire where he starts a relationship with a firefighter and starts working as a carpenter. Unable to adjust to his new life, he returns to New Jersey where he is ambushed and killed by his cousin-in-law, Phil Leotardo.
  • Silvio Dante and Carlo Gervasi kill "Fat Dom" Gamiello after the latter cracks jokes at the late Vito Spatafore's, Dante's, and Gervasi's expense.
  • Lupertazzi and Di Meo family relations worsen considerably under Phil Leotardo's leadership of the Lupertazzi family.
  • Phil Leotardo suffers a heart attack and is visited by Tony Soprano in the hospital.

     2007 
  • Tony Soprano and Bobby Baccalieri have a violent altercation after Tony insults Bobby's wife during a game of Monopoly. Tony then sends Baccalieri to Quebec to perform his first murder.
  • Johnny Sack dies of lung cancer while in prison.
  • Christopher Moltisanti dies at the hands of Tony.
  • A.J. Soprano attempts suicide but fails to do so.
  • Dr. Jennifer Melfi ends her therapy sessions with Tony Soprano.
  • Phil Leotardo decides to wage war on the Di Meo crime family. Bobby Baccalieri is killed while Silvio Dante is rendered comatose after a series of assassination attempts. Janice Soprano is left a widow.
  • FBI Agent Dwight Harris provides Tony Soprano with info on Phil Leotardo's location. Albie Cianfalone and Butch De Concini, two associates of Phil Leotardo, express dissatisfaction with his leadership and give Tony Soprano the go-ahead on Leotardo, who is later killed by Walden Belfiore.
  • The Sopranos concludes with Tony eating at a restaurant with his family. Tony looks up as a person walks in before the series cuts to black.
