Timeline / Shattered (2017)

Go To

Note that Shattered is part of a multiverse, with some events happening simultaneously, while others have a huge gap between them.

WARNING: SPOILERS ARE UNMARKED!

Original Multiverse (The First World):

  • The Big Bang occurred. Contrary to popular belief, the Big Bang had an infinite number of resulting permutations, a multiverse. In many of these, life flourished in the form of many species, including the Elder Things.

  • As the Elder Things evolved, they expanded their territory across their original universe and other universes as well. They became the non-humanoid equivalent of Time Lords, possessing temporal technology as well. They also created Shoggoths to serve them, who were like gelatinous golden roombas.

  • After an unknown amount of time, the Outer Gods and the Great Old Ones started wreaking havoc across the multiverse, existing in every reality simultaneously, along with their followers. They managed to corrupt Shoggoths as well.

  • After eons of conflict between the two, the Elder Things managed to stop the destruction by shattering the structure of reality, separating each universe, and essentially cutting the cosmic entities into pieces. These fragments were locked up in Containtment Facilities existing between reality and the Void. They were stripped of their consciousness, and their infinite power was channeled into creating new universes and their branches, while injecting randomness in it to prevent a Laplace's Demon.

  • However, an Outer God, everybody's favourite Nyarlathotep, was not harmed but locked out of the multiverse, unable to get in as long as things were progressing naturally. Gods flourishing and fading away was a precaution to deal with the entropy Nyarlathotep's existence signified, where the collective unconsciousness would take the brunt of the blow.

The Second World:

  • Not much is known about this world, but it lasted for fourteen hundred billion years.

  • The second world was supposed to be the last world, but it was eventually invaded and the multiverse was reset.

The Third World:

  • Not much is known about this world either, but it lasted for hundred and twelve billion years.

  • Kokyangwuti, the Guardian for Universe 072590, was said to be from this world. She herself claims that while this is not false, it is not completely true either.

The Fourth World

  • The knowledge of three unknown persons from the previous world was taken by a containment facility, and extrapolated into the fourth world.

  • When sentient life emerged, those three persons instilled in their minds the idea of gods and demons and divinity.

  • There were many false starts in an attempt to create sentient life, for instance dinosaurs.

Olympus' Meddling

  • Sensing that there was something special about Mt. Olympus (it was a Containment Facility), the Ancient Greeks established an Axis Mundi there, giving Olympians access to the Facility.

  • When the Nazarene grew popular, and the Olympians started becoming weaker, Zeus attempted to have him assassinated, in which he failed.

  • Upon seeing Pan fading, Zeus became terrified of his mortality, and consulted the Fates, who confirmed his fears; they were running out of weaving material, meaning that no new fate could be written, and their lack of believers was crippling them.

  • To escape this fate, Zeus made a deal with the Fates: Zeus would supply the Fates with the weaving material in the form of human souls, and ensure that there would be plenty of believers of Olympus, and the Fates in turn would loop time back so that everybody alive during Zeus' time would be reborn.

  • Zeus established a Shadow Cabal, including Poseidon, Hera, Apollo and Artemis, Hecate, Ares, and Athena, and informed them of his deal with the Fates. When problems started occurring in this Cycle of events, the Shadow Cabal developed a system to progress the Cycle:
    • Those in the Isles of the Blest, and those who chose to be reborn, would be taken and reduced to weaving material.
    • Hecate cast a spell to keep the spirits in the Underworld believing in Olympus' might.
    • At the end of every Cycle, Artemis would hunt down all the demigods.
    • Olympus would instigate war between mortals, leading to an influx of souls in the Underworld, from which many could be taken away without Hades noticing.
    • Zeus had the Fates decree that pantheons would not interact with each other, letting the Shadow Cabal deal with the other pantheons privately.
    • The Shadow Cabal unleashed the Magnum Innominandum from the Countainment Facility, obscuring other Gods from their believers.

  • Olympus caused many wars between mortals: the American Civil War, World War 1, World War 2, etc.

World War 2 and Maria di Angelo

  • Before World War 2 began, Hades met, and fell in love with Maria di Angelo. She met Persephone, became best friends with her, and gave birth to Bianca.
  • Sometime later, Maria became pregnant with Nico, and also became deathly ill, so much so that Persephone burnt the original pomegranate tree in her orchard in offering to Artemis, so that both Maria and Nico survived.
  • Before leaving Italy for America, Maria went to see her parents with Bianca and Nico, who had disowned her. They proceeded to verbally humiliate her, with her father going as far as spitting on Nico. Leaving their house, Maria cried and Persephone came to support her.
  • In America, Zeus attempted to kill Maria, Bianca and Nico, but Bianca and Nico survived. Hades hid the children away in Lotus Hotel and Casino, while tricking Persephone into thinking all three died, damaging their relationship.

Avalon's Origin

  • Jeremiah Aarons, the son of a Jewish horologist, was taken away from his house, along with his father, by the gestapo. His mother and sister were separated, and he later learned his sister had starved to death.

  • He and his father were forced to labour for 12 hours a day, seven days a week. His father died early on from an infection, and Jeremiah himself stayed for four years.

  • During his stay, he noticed how most of the guard and staff carried bronze and gold weapons, praised the old gods, and referred to the prisoners as mortals. The longer he stayed, the more the Mist faded from his eyes, and he started seeing the monsters: Scythian Dracanae, Cyclopses, and the like. He also saw how most of the prisoners were fed to drakons when instructed to go to the showers.

  • This came to a head when, in the closing days of the war, Jupiter paid a visit to Jeremiah's camp, and demanded more and more souls. After he left, the staff began exterminating the prisoners with extreme prejudice. Jeremiah survived, and tried to escape, but was caught by guards. However, the guards were killed, before they could do anything, by Arthur Arthurson.

  • Arthur Arthurson was a 16 year-old American, who enlisted by lying about his age. Born to farmers in Iowa, he deplored violence, but was good with a rifle. Due to Nyarlathotep's meddling, Arthur broke away from his unit and saved Jeremiah's life.

  • While arguing with his Commanding Officer, Arthur ended up revealing his true age, and so was given a medal and sent back home. He bribed an acquaintance to forge papers for Jeremiah, and while Jeremiah Aarons died, Jeremiah Arthurson was born. Arthur taught Jeremiah english with his favourite book, The Sword and the Stone.

  • When they arrived in New York, they saw the beings of mythological world in regular life, and Jeremiah became violent at seeing them, though Arthur calmed him down.

  • At his farm in Iowa, Arthur's parents took a shining to Jeremiah. But one day, four years after he arrived, Arthur's father caught them in the barn, and kicked them out. They fled to New York, where Jeremiah started fixing watches while Arthur moved from job to job.

  • To quell his anger, Jeremiah went out every night with a bat, to kill any monster he could find. When Arthur found out, they had their biggest argument ever. After that, they agreed that something had to be done about the mythological world, and so Avalon was born.

Early Days of Avalon

  • Avalon's original goal was to protect demigods, with two primary divisions:
    • The Scabbard, led by Arthur: It's primary goal was information gathering and development of strategies to protect the general public.
    • The Sword, led by Jeremiah, now known as Merlin: It's goal was to take out any monster they believed to be a threat.

  • Avalon learned about the mythological worlds from various mortals affiliated with it.

  • They helped out the demigods with various things, such as misinforming authorities, providing rides, etc.

  • Arthur died while evacuating people from Mt. Saint Helens, from where Typhon rose.

  • When Annabeth lost Daedalus' Laptop in Rome, it was recovered by Avalon. They found out about the Cycle through it, and from then on took a more radical stance.

Members of Avalon

  • George was a Vietnam veteran, whose daughter was tricked by Artemis into believing he died, and so she joined the Hunters.

  • Morgan's mother sold her to dark-web level pedophiles for drug money. She was tortured and raped through her childhood. When she got too old for the clientele, they took her to ruins in Europe to make a snuff film, not knowing they belonged to Hecate. She offered Morgan a Faustian deal for power to take revenge. Morgan took that deal, and further deals to increase her power.

  • Brian was sociopathic and very intelligent from childhood. He caused his brother's death by hijacking his RC and steering it towards the street, where he got hit. When in college, Brian met Athena, fell in a toxic kind of love in her, but she rejected him.
