Late 21st Century

    The Second Renaissance 
  • The Animatrix: The Second Renaissance
    • Humans created AI and Machines to make them their servants in the era.
    • B1-66ER killed his human masters and pets, which caused a controversial trial, resulting in the death of the B1 unit.
    • After the sentence, humans who cared for the Machines and Machines have been executed and abused.
    • The Machines moved from "all nations of the earth" to found their own nation in the Levant: Zero One, which had great exporting.
    • The Zero One ambassadors wanted peace talks with the United Nations but was denied to join.
    • Humanity has declared war against Zero One, which got heavy casualties for the humans and made them surrender.
    • Machines experimented on and entombed human victims for an indeterminate amount of time prior to the creation of the Matrix.

22nd Century

    Beginning of the Matrix 
  • The Animatrix & The Matrix Reloaded (mentioned only)
    • The Machines created a Program known as the Architect to design the Matrix, a utopia for people's minds. However, it was a deep failure.
    • The Architect redesigned the Matrix after the negatives of human history and mythology, which was yet another failure.
    • The Architect encountered an Exile program named the Oracle to insert choice inside the Matrix, which brought up the concept of the One. The Architect believes the One is a systemic anomaly, rather than a hopeful icon. The Architect also created the Agents.

23rd Century

  • The Matrix Reloaded (mentioned only)
    • The First One encountered the Architect and decided to go to the Source, preventing the shutdown of the Matrix and beginning life at Zion with 23 people.

24th Century

  • The Matrix Reloaded (mentioned only)
    • The Second One reused the same process its predecessor had.

  • The Matrix
    • Thomas Anderson realized that his life in the Matrix is false. He met Morpheus and took the red pill to get ready for the real world.
    • At the real world, Anderson became Neo through his thorough training.
    • Neo returned to the Matrix and became the One.
  • The Matrix: Path of Neo
    • Neo as the One, began an exodus of Potentials, which made the Machines extract a list of Potentials so Neo can rescue them again.
  • The Animatrix: Kid's Story
  • The Animatrix: Final Flight of the Osiris
    • Thadeus, captain of the Osiris was overwhelmed by the Sentinel surprise attack and learned that they are digging towards Zion.
    • Thadeus did an emergency broadcast so that Zion will understand the impending devastation.
    • Jue dropped the package containing the broadcast in the Matrix at a mailbox before the destruction of the Osiris.
  • Enter the Matrix & The Matrix Reloaded
    • Niobe and Ghost retrieved the last transmission of the Osiris from the Matrix and sent it to Zion.
    • Zionist forces retreat to base to prepare a counter offensive against the digging attack. At the same time Morpheus suggests attempting to fulfil the prophecy to end the war. One ship remains to await word from the Oracle.
    • The Smith program has escaped and begun replicating within the Matrix.
    • The Oracle summons Neo but the contacts are attacked in the Matrix and Smith overwrites one of them to escape to the real world.
    • Neo and co follow the Path of the One unknowingly being directed to the same position as his five predecessors. During that they encounter and anger the rogue program known as the Merovingian.
    • Smith sabotages the Zion fleet, ending all hope of a human miltary solution to the attack.
    • Neo reaches the sources and learns the truth. He rejects the choice to destroy and restart Zion and chooses to save Trinity instead.
    • The Nebuchadnezzar destroyed by machines although crew narrowly escape after Neo is able to access and override machines in the real world for the first time. In doing so however his mind enters the Matrix and he becomes trapped by the Merovingian.
    • The Hammer rescues the crew and it is learned that Bane (Smith's host) was recovered as well...
  • The Matrix Revolutions
    • Morpheus leads a rescue mission that brings Neo back. Neo is then given the Logos to fly to the Machine City with Trinity. Unbeknownst to him, Bane has stowed away, attacks Neo and blinds him before being decapitated. Trinity manages to get them to Machine City, but the crash landing fatally wounds her.
    • Zion is attacked. The humans manage to destroy the first wave of attacks, at the cost of many lives and with the coup de grace, an EMP by the Hammer, crippling all the remaining defenses.
    • After Smith assimilates the Oracle, he begins replicating until the whole Matrix is taken over. The leadership of the machines, "Deus Ex Machina", accepts Neo's proposal to let him fight Smith before he takes over both the simulated and real worlds and plugs him in.
    • Neo and the Oracle-enhanced Smith fight. Smith assimilates Neo, but this exposes him to Deus Ex Machina, who sends a surge of energy into Neo to delete Smith. Accepting the conditions left by the now deceased Neo, the machines withdraw their attack on Zion, and promise to release any humans who want to leave the Matrix.

29th century

    2700- 58 

  • The Matrix Resurrections
    • The machines start infighting. One part joins the humans in the now renamed "IO", ruled at first by Morpheus and then by Niobe. The others build a new Matrix.
    • The new Matrix rulers, led by The Analyst, take the bodies of Neo and Trinity and revive them to learn about their unusual qualities. They ultimately discover that both generate more energy when exposed to internal strife, and plugs them in the Matrix in a scenario that forcibly keeps Trinity away from Neo.

     2759 
  • The Matrix Resurrections
    • Thomas Anderson, maker of an acclaimed Matrix video game trilogy, starts realizing that his life in the Matrix is false as he works in a fourth installment. Bugs and a program embodying Morpheus free Neo from the Matrix.
