Tear Jerker / Total Divas

Go To

  • The very first episode shows that both the Bellas and the Funkadactyls have their WrestleMania match cut completely from the show - simply because the match before them ran overtime. Whether this was staged for the show is irrelevant, because this happened numerous times in the Diva Era; LayCool had their match at 27 slashed, not even finding out until they got to the ring (where they were told to just go straight to the finish), Melina spent most of 23 waiting in gorilla position unsure if her match would even happen (being squeezed in at the last minute, and ultimately just getting three minutes at friggin WrestleMania), and other years had the Divas being reduced to ridiculous segments while everyone else got to have spectacular matches. While 2014 did see a change, it's a sad reminder of a generation of women wrestlers (and fans) who came to dread the season for what should have been the biggest PPV of the year.
    • And even then they got Screwed by the Network next year when their match was moved to later in the night - and had to be the match to follow the Undertaker's streak getting broken.
  • Jojo splitting up with her high school boyfriend, learning the Hard Truth Aesop that adulthood takes people in different directions. And a sad reminder of what sacrifices come with the WWE lifestyle.
  • The episode featuring the death of Nattie's beloved cat Gismo. Fans were aware that the cat had passed away but the show revealed that he had to be euthanised. TJ is touted as someone who dares not show vulnerability and "never cries" but even he loses it. What's the worst is them spending a few moments playing with him before he's put to sleep. The actual procedure is also not shown but rather the camera is outside the door when it happens. All we can hear is Nattie crying "I wish I didn't have to do this".
  • Brie telling Summer that she doesn't want her at her wedding. What makes this into a Tear Jerker is that Summer is suddenly shown with a couple of tears. She's not blubbering or fake crying - she's still able to speak and just makes it clear how hurt and offended she is.
  • What is happening with Eva Marie's father is also a Tear Jerker, especially if you have lost your parent(s) to cancer or anything similar. Also on a side note her father and mother both hiding it from Eva does not help matters.
  • The episode that captures the reaction from the girls upon finding out that Dusty Rhodes passed away. Paige and Nattie are notably hurt the most by it, Nattie dissolving into tears as she talks about how he always gunned for TJ and pushed him when others didn't want to. Likewise, Paige can barely hold it together in her confessional:
Paige: If you were a toy he'd want to play with you. But if you were a broken and beaten down toy he'd want to shine you up and polish you to make you all better.
  • Rosa's fallout with her mother over her newborn daughter Jordan's religion. When Rosa told her mother that she would let Jordan decide if she wanted to be a Christian, her mother responded by telling her to tell Jordan that she "would burn in Hell." The fact that she has been staying with her now-fiancĂ© at his parents' house for family support strongly implies that Rosa has been disowned by her mother.
  • Rikishi not showing up to his son's wedding because he had a prior commitment.
    • And the reason he had to miss it is likely another one on his own. For a lot of retired wrestlers, once they're gone from WWE, and they can't wrestle on the indies anymore, a lot of their income is coming from those conventions or public appearances - so it was possibly a choice between going to the wedding and being able to pay the bills.
  • There's Naomi's tribute to the victims of the PULSE nightclub shooting in Orlando - and she reveals that she had a friend who was shot there.
  • The exercise where Eva goes to an artist to illustrate how she views herself versus how others do. She looks at herself in the mirror and describes herself to an artist who can't see her, and he sketches a picture. He then sketches another picture based on what someone else describes Eva as. The picture of what Eva described is notably heavier and less attractive, showing what a negative self-image she has of herself.
  • Naomi discovering that Cameron is going back down to NXT to train. It shows the End of an Era for these two women who came up to TV together, and were even in developmental together for four years. Even Harsher in Hindsight with the knowledge that Cameron would eventually get released.
  • Although the show builds towards Nikki and John ultimately overcoming their different priorities to make things work, culminating in him proposing to her after their mixed tag match with the Mizanins, Total Bellas would show a sad outcome - despite being very much in love, they ultimately had to call off the wedding. Despite their limited on-camera reactions, Brie admits that she viewed John as a brother and can't help feeling sad about him now being alone too (especially since he's already been divorced), as the two were such a great couple and the not wanting children thing was literally the only reason they had to break up.
    • Nikki mentions that after the break-up, he sent her a message saying that, the day she becomes a mother like she always wanted, he's expecting to get the first "thank you" text.
