Tear Jerker / The Mindy Project

• Even though they weren't together for very long, Mindy and Danny's break-up is very emotional. Danny himself has a serious broken voice as he confesses that Mindy is his best friend, and that he couldn't stand not having her in his life. Mindy tries to convince him to stick with it, but he ends up walking away from her. The fallout, both on the show and off it, just shows what a powerful scene it was.
• Mindy's reaction when she and Danny bash his Indian and promiscuous girlfriend that his new priest heard about. Mindy tries to defend "girlfriend" and get's disheartened when Danny speaks of this girl as "nothing special".
• Annette, for all her behavior, can be tragic: she's really been working hard for her sons, been keeping any dating life she had undercover for them and because she's gun shy of jumping into something more committed after a disastrous marriage, and in the 3rd Season finale she reveals that she blames herself for Danny's cynicism and fear of marriage.
  • On that note, Danny's childhood: his father left him and the family when he was young, his father stood him up for a movie date, he experiences a lot of Catholic guilt, and he fears his relationship with Mindy would end up like his parents' marriage.
• Mindy in the Season 3 finale writes an email to her parents about Danny, her relationship and love for him, and that she's carrying his baby. She then adds, she's afraid where their relationship will go...but doesn't send it.
• Mindy's Weight Woe, usually Played for Laughs, is more acute in "What To Expect When You're Expanding" when she states this is the heaviest she's ever been, her dress sense gets more schlubby than her usual wardrobe, she fears that she'll get fatter and fatter while Danny becomes handsomer, when her "skinny dress" splits in the ass and across the shoulders you can see her heart break, and things get worse after she has a makeover and presents herself for sex with Danny only for him to giggle at her tight jumpsuit.

  Mindy: Maybe in my dreams, I'll be skinny (sobs)

• Mindy after her and Danny's fights have become more frequent and vicious, sneaking out in the middle of the night to her old apartment, and measuring her closet to see if it would be big enough as a nursery for Leo. Then completely breaking down.
  • Then later when she returns back to bed, she takes Danny's arm and drapes it around her and he holds her firmly. While she knows it probably won't work out between them, she still loves him.
