Tear Jerker / Unfinished Tales of Númenor and Middle-earth

• The tale of Aldarion and Erendis and their troubled marriage was never finished, but there's something poignantly tragic in the only notes for how the story would end. Erendis, elderly and neglected by her daughter, journeys "unrecognised and alone" to the haven of Rómenna to meet Aldarion once more when he returns from the sea, the sea that she has hated for her entire life as the cause of her troubled marriage.
  There, it seems, she met her fate, but only the words 'Erendis perished in water in the year 985' remains to suggest how it came to pass.
• Isildur's death, made all the worse by his regret over taking the Ring and the fact his sons die in the same battle.
