Tear Jerker / Scream 4

Go To

  • Kate Roberts' final words, "Tell Jill I'm... so sorry." What really drives it home is that, since this was all Jill's fault, killing her mother was part of the plan.
    • Kate's first scene has her mention that Maureen Prescott was her sister and "no one ever asks me about my scars". Imagine having to live with your sister being brutally murdered and then her dirty laundry being aired all over town, and trashy movies being made about it.
  • Charlie's attack on Kirby with her fate being up in the air for years until Scream (2022).
    • Heartwarming mixes in though with the later reveal though that Kirby didn't die and maybe Charlie didn't go all the way through with it—be it not wanting to be there to see/do it or deciding at the last minute he couldn't. The pained look in his face really speaks to how conflicted he is in the moment that he pulls out the knife and walks away with apparent regret. The intense shock and sadness Kirby has after Charlie has both stabbed her and walked away is also very clear. In what could have been her last moments, the guy she had a crush on—whatever his motivations after—stabbed and left her for dead.
    • The idea of what else Kirby had to deal with in the years that follow too. Aside from Charlie's brutal murder at the hands of Jill giving her no closure whatsoever, Kirby's "best friend" who committed the atrocities and was responsible for planning her near death too was at first touted as a hero before the truth came out, all her other friends were dead too and a grueling physical recovery was probably something she faced for years in addition to the mental recovery as well.
  • Charlie revealing his relationship with Jill to Sidney by means of referring to them as Sidney and Randy basically reminding Sid about how she couldn't see it until her friend was brutally killed. The even bigger insult that really slaps Sid in the face though is the two kissing and prior to that, this line:
Charlie: "Last two teenagers standing. This time Randy gets the girl."
  • Even with his own insanity and role in the Ghostface killings, the horrifying moments in which Jill disposes of Charlie by stabbing him in the chest to make herself the Final Girl and him a patsy along with Trevor. The shock and pain he expresses makes it all the more harsh. Telling that he's probably the one time you feel sorry for a Ghostface killer.
Jill: "Trevor was your partner. You? You were the idea man."
  • The fact that at the time of the events of this movie, Sidney has pretty much no family left. Her mom was murdered, her long-lost brother tried to kill her before she killed him the instant they met, her aunt was killed by her cousin whom she had to kill herself, and her father passed away.
  • The Fridge Horror that Jill set up Olivia to be killed off right in front of herself and Kirby, where the latter could only look on helplessly.
  • Trevor is the Red Herring for most of the film, with the viewer being led to believe he was the Domestic Abuser and Jill the one we should sympathise with. Then we get the reveal that Jill is the deranged mastermind behind the whole thing, and set Trevor up to be her fall guy. It begs the question of what being in a relationship with her was like, and how much of Jill's claims that he dumped her are actually true. He's even left begging "I loved you!"
    • And right before she kills him, she shoots him in the groin. This girl cruelly wants everyone to suffer before they die.
