Tear Jerker / Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea

• May forcing herself to distance from Manaphy after Jackie reminds her that Manaphy is the monarch of all water type Pokémon and the prince of the sea, and them growing too close would result in the latter not wanting to leave.
• May, Pikachu and Manaphy sitting helpless inside of the capsule as Ash attempts to save them. Following his success, for a short moment they believe he may have drowned in the process.
• May and Manaphy's goodbye at the end of the movie. Ash, Max and Brock all feel sympathy for May as she tearfully watches Manaphy swim away for the last time.
  May: No, I'm not okay; but I will be.
• The ending song, Together We Make a Promise, is about May and Manaphy having to part ways, but promising to never forget each other or the time they spent together.
  Together we'll make a promise,
  To never forget it all.
  We've only scratched the surface
  Of worlds we'll come to know.
  Together moving forward,
  Even though we're far apart.
  So safe and sound inside our hearts,
  We keep our word until we are together once again.
  • Considering that this was the last movie to feature the Advanced Generation cast, it could just as easily be about May and Ash parting ways instead.
  • Sadly, May has not reappeared since Diamond & Pearl out of respect for her voice actress, KAORI, who was diagnosed with spasmodic dysphonia in 2012 that affected her ability to speak. Since she did not return in Journeys, which was the last season to feature Ash as a main character, there is a chance that we may never get to see the two finally reunite, which goes for both Manaphy and May as well.
