    TV Series
  • During "The Reluctant Stowaway", Judy, Penny and little Will Robinson being forced to watch their parents dying as the heat from a passing comet nearly cooks them alive. Fortunately, Don was able to get to John and Maureen just in time to save them. Still, it must have been a terrible experience for the children.
  • John and Don's bickering throughout "The Hungry Sea", which steadily grows more and more bitter. Fortunately, the two patch things up eventually.
    • The moment when it appeared Don had been lost at sea, poor Judy's reaction when they thought he was dead.
    • Dr. Smith's seemingly sincere melancholy whilst listening to Robot play a rather morose song on a guitar.
  • In "Welcome Stranger", John brings up the idea of sending Will and Penny back to Earth with Hapgood to Maureen. For her part, Maureen is heartbroken and conflicted at the idea of being separated from her children. A rather understandable reaction from a mother.
  • In "My Friend, Mr. Nobody", Penny's feelings of being left out while everyone else in the family is able to do something to contribute to their survival are brought to the forefront.
    • Even after surviving her adventure in the cave unharmed. Penny is still left feeling ignored when she returns to the ship. First be her mother, who thinks she was just using her imagination. Or taunted by her brother, who practically calls her delusional, right to her face.
    • Mr. Nobody's reaction to Penny being knocked unconscious from the explosion caused by Dr. Smith. Especially since this was just after he/it had learned about the nature of death.
Mr. Nobody: Penny? Penny? When a person can't talk anymore. When a person can't move anymore. Penny. Please move. Penny, please don't die. Penny?
    • Will finding the Robot had been torn to pieces while trying to fend off Mr. Nobody. The poor boy seems heartbroken as he assesses the Robot's scattered components.
  • From "One of Our Dog's is Missing", Penny's heartbroken reaction when her new pet dog had run away.
  • The town council in "Return from Outer Space" refusing to help Will contact Alpha Control. Mostly in fear that the town's reputation would suffer, if the boy turned out to be mentally unbalanced.
  • In "War of the Robots", the Robot's obvious sadness as the Robotoid seems to replace him. Later, Dr. Smith only makes things worse by outright telling the Robot to leave the Jupiter 2 and go into exile.
    • Don is also rather cruel in his dismissiveness of the Robot. While John is Innocently Insensitive when Will tries to defend the Robot.
  • Penny in "The Magic Mirror", is once again bullied. This time by Judy, who teases her about her appearance. Telling Penny, she should stop being such a Tom Boy. Penny then just understandably upset at such critical remarks and runs off crying.
    • In the end, Penny and Dr. Smith are able to escape the "mirror dimension" by distorting their reflections within a pool of water. Penny is eventually able to convince the boy who lives there to let her go. After Penny asks that he follow her in escaping, the boy reveals that he doesn't have a reflection in the water. Though poor Penny has no way of knowing this, so she's left devastated when Dr. Smith destroys the mirror upon her escape. Not knowing that the boy was unable to follow her regardless of Dr. Smith's actions.
  • In "The Space Trader", after Dr. Smith hands over the Robot as payment to the Trader. Will finds him, with a "for sale" sign around his neck. Along with a ball and chain tide around his legs. The Robot even refers to Dr. Smith's actions as an outright betrayal.
  • In "All That Glitters," when Dr. Smith believes he's accidentally gotten Penny killed, his agonized guilt is one of his most human moments in the entire series. The alien force that changed her into platinum is impressed by his repentance and restores Penny to normal.
  • Another Dr. Smith example in "The Phantom Family", but this time it's his even sillier duplicate, who heroically saves the real Smith while knowing that it will mean his destruction. And this is after Will told the duplicate that they would never be friends.
  • "The Lost Civilization", when Will says goodbye to his young Princess friend, who is about to go back into an endless sleep, sealed underground until she is discovered again. This is made even worse by the fact that the entire PLANET explodes a few episodes later.

Film:

  • The distance between Will and Penny and their dad. And it's been going on for years. At one point, Penny openly states her firm belief that their father cares only for the mission and not for his children, at all.
  • Judy almost dying in front of her mother and sister. Penny is crying hysterically.
  • The destruction of the Jupiter II as it tries to take off in the first timeline. John's grief as he watches the ship explode when hit by some planetary debris is heartbreaking.
  • Everything about Will being stuck with Spider Smith. All his family died, and he has been stuck for several decades with only their murderer for company.
  • Future! Will saying goodbye to his family just before time portal collapses in on itself.
Future! Will: (just as the time portal begins to collapse) Take care of them Will. Don't forget me...

2018 Netflix Series:

  • S2:E5 "Run," Judy's speech detailing what will happen to the family if John gives up and dies before she can reach him with the medical supplies needed to stabilize him after he's injured in an accident at a remote drilling platform.
    • "Great?" Right, okay. Let me tell you what life will be like without you: Mom... will throw herself into work... she'll grow cold, and distant... Penny's snark will turn bitter, and she'll act out... and Will... will retreat into himself. All that hope, that light he carries inside of him? It'll die the second I tell him that you didn't make it. And me, well, I'll just - I'll just do what I always do. I'll try and keep the family together, because that is my duty, that's my job, because I love them. And I will hate you. I will hate you for giving up. I will hate you for taking another father away from me. I will hate you for not loving me enough to try harder. Because I need you... I'm always gonna need you... And I'm not gonna hate you, and I'm not letting you go.
