Tear Jerker / Kent

Go To

Kent has produced few positive sounding songs and is known as a melancholic band. Even if the music isn't always necessarily tear-jerking, very many of their songs have beautiful and very dark lyrics. Jocke Berg is a master of that:

  • The Swedish and English version of "Stoppa mig Juni (Lilla Ego)" ("Stop me June (Little Ego)" in English). It's a song about the past and growing up, and locking at the past with melancholy while the melody starts out quiet and softly and grows louder with the time while remaining soft. Many people in forums consider this as one of Kent's most beautiful songs with a good reason.
  • "M", especially in this live version. At the beginning, Jocke Berg tells that the song is about his grandparents when his grandmother was terminally ill and dying, and the song is a try to describe the feeling of helplessness you have when someone close to you dies and there is nothing you can do.
  • "Hjärta", a song about people who went missing. Especially sad is the video, where family members of missing people are represented with their loved ones projected on them. You can see their agony...
  • "Klåparen" deserves definitely to be mentioned. Besides its extremely beautifully sad melody, the lyrics, describing a feeling about resignation, about a young person who presumably just graduated and doesn't know what to do with life are really able to bring tears in your eyes, especially when you are in the same situation. People have discribed the lyrics as "the feeling of teenage-angst that you never grow out of".
  • "Mannen i den vita hatten" is as well about a person who just graduated and possibly even more sad. It's especially the epic melody and the build-up at the beginning, which conveys pretty much the feeling everyone has at the end of the farewell party of your school.
  • "Glider", both the Swedish and English version. The pure hopelessness of the melody is simply tear-jerking.
  • "Var är vi nu?". A very melancholically song, again about getting older and locking sadly at the past asking how it happened that you are where you are now.
  • "Den sista sången", the last song on their last album. And the last song on their last concert.
  • This line from "Den andra sidan" is painfully relatable for everyone who lost someone:
I cannot see your face, it was that what I forgot first
