Tear Jerker / Breaking Point

• Chrona's reaction when he regains clarity after his and Black Star's fight, and realizes how badly he (unwittingly) hurt one of his friends. The guilt is strong enough to send him into a day-long Angst Coma.
• Chrona's Flashback Nightmare in chapter 4. When he was a child, one day Medusa got him a kitten and told him to look after it for a month. At first he's scared of the kitten, but soon becomes comfortable with it and loves it very much. He takes care of it, plays with it, and names it Patch. However, once the month is up, Medusa orders him to kill the kitten, which naturally horrifies him.
  Chrona: But...y-you told me to take care of it.
  Medusa: Yes, and you have done that for one month, as I ordered. Now the time is up.
  Chrona: I don't understand. Why?
  Medusa: You've formed a bond with this creature. Now you will sever that bond with your own hands. It's part of your growth. A killer cannot have attachments.
  • At first, he tries to refuse, but after being thrown in the dark room and starved for three days, Chrona kills the kitten to avoid further punishment. The worst part, though, is afterward:
  He knows that Medusa-sama is right - that after killing a human, a kitten should be easy. He's killed so many animals. But somehow, this feels worse. Because the kitten trusted him. Because he was supposed to take care of it, and instead...
  He betrayed that bond. Because he is too weak to defy his mother, he destroyed something smaller and weaker than himself. Chrona closes his eyes. And for the first time in his short life, he really - truly, deeply - hates himself. A person like me should die, he thinks.
  It's right that Medusa-sama is cruel to him. It's right that Ragnarok beats him up and calls him names. Because he is bad. No one will ever love someone like him. How could they?
  • Please note that Chrona was six years old when this happened.
• Chrona getting rocks thrown at him by young kids who've heard their parents talking badly about him. One of them hits him in the head hard enough to make him bleed.
  Kid 1: Witch!
  Kid 2: Go back where you came from, you ugly witch!
  Kid 3: Yeah, we don't want you here! Go away and die!
  • Needless to say, it is immensely satisfying when Ragnarok bursts out and threatens to eat them, making them run away screaming.
