    Kaede: "...Yes."
    Ryoma: "Hm?"
    Kaede: "I said yes! It's true! Rantaro wasn't murdered by Shuichi… I did it. I don't know why I'm still here... I did a terrible thing, Ryoma…"
Ryoma: "You did it for us though, didn't you? You wanted to end the killing game and help us all escape—"
Kaede: "But that doesn't excuse the fact that I killed him, Ryoma! Rantaro wasn't the mastermind; I killed an innocent person…"

  • The Tenko/Himiko scene before Tenko leaves for her execution, and Kaede and Kaito relentlessly trying to prevent it from happening, even when she's being pulled up by the chain.
  • Himiko unintentionally becoming a part of Tenko's execution.
  • Pretty much the entirety of Tenko's execution sequence, but especially the ending.
    • Himiko tries to reach out to Tenko, but instead Tenko pushes her away (the first time she's ever done so in the story), and it's to protect Himiko from being impaled by a spear lingering underneath the floorboards.

  • Kaede falling back into a depressed state after Tenko's death, partially because she believes it's all her fault.
  • Kirumi cooking hotpot in honor of Tenko in chapter 13.
  • Exploring the Ultimate Aikido Master's lab: Pretty much the entire scene.
  • When Kaede and Maki visit Korekiyo in chapter 14.
    • He talks about his sister's illness, and about his activities on the outside, and Kaede comes to realize that he isn't an entirely heartless killer, but a man riddled with grief, and dealt with said grief in a horrifying way.
  • Kaede and Kaito reminiscing about Tenko outside her dojo at night-time.
  • When Kaede and Kirumi find Himiko in a terrible way in chapter 15.
    • She'd been refusing meals ever since Tenko's death, and didn't allow Kirumi to look at the cuts she'd sustained after being pulled into Tenko's execution.
    • One of the firsts thing Himiko asks when she wakes up is; 'Where's Tenko...?'
    • Maki of all people, is the one to talk some sense into Himiko.
  • When Kaede catches her reflection in the third-floor window, she's reminded of Tenko.
  • After Rantaro's return, Kaede has her third Heroic BSoD of the fic as the Student Council have a memorial service for Gonta and Tenko in chapter 16.
    • Himiko and Ryoma are forced by Angie to give speeches for Tenko and Gonta respectively.
    • And Korekiyo, gives a surprisingly heartfelt speech about his past, unravelling his bandages and revealing his Good Scars, Evil Scars in the process. (he cuts himself every time he murders a girl, to keep count of his kills, and atone for his wrongdoings). During this, he inadvertently reaches out and apologizes to Himiko for being the cause of Tenko's downfall, and also apologizes for once considering her a 'candidate' for his sister. He acknowledges that now that his secret is out, he can't murder while trapped in the school, and pledges to work with everyone to escape the academy. Kiyo's received positively though, and the dark speech ends up with Heart warming results.
  • Kaede apologizing profusely before tearfully running away from a confused Rantaro when she encounters him in the hallway.
  • In chapter 17, when the new motive is revealed to be the Despair Disease, three people become infected with 'personalities' of people now deceased
    • Himiko contracts 'Chabashira Syndrome' - she inhabits Tenko's mannerisms and periodically believes that she is Tenko Chabashira, much to Kaede's dismay.
    • Korekiyo gets the 'Lovesick Disease' - a cruel pun on his deceased sister.
    • Kirumi contracts an unknown form of the disease; but when Monokuma divulges that her illness related to the number '53' after the class trial, it's possible that she retained the personality of the V3 Kirumi Tojo after she died in her execution (which would explain why she tried to kill Miu, and why she suddenly seemed to remember the contents of her motive video, which she doesn't get a chance to watch in this fic).
  • When Kiibo's body is discovered, and the aftermath.
  • When Kirumi's body is discovered in chapter 18 and the aftermath.
  • Miu's heartbreaking attempt to 'fix' Kiibo.
  • In the class trial when Miu is put on the spot for murdering Kiibo. She reveals that she was hiding behind the partition in Kirumi's lab when Kiibo's body was thrown into the room and has a second panic attack. Kaito tries to calm her down during the trial.
  • When Kaede realizes that only the mastermind could have killed Kirumi, and her despair when they fail to out the ringleader during the trial.
  • The aftermath of the trial after Angie is convicted of Kiibo's murder; Angie was trying to protect everyone by killing Kiibo, as Kiibo was unknowingly acting as a living surveillance camera for someone from the outside. She even went as far as lock Kiibo's body in a manner so that nobody can ever discover, in order to prevent a Body Discovery Announcement and in turn prevent a Class Trial. Unfortunately, on the same night, Tsumugi had killed Kirumi and had came across Kiibo's murder by chance. And with her intel, she set everything up so that Angie would have been declared the next Class Trial's 'official blackened' (by having Kiibo's body found first, leading to a 'first come-first serve' rule for the murders for each Class Trial) and Tsumugi would be safe even if she was found out as Kirumi's murderer.
  • Himiko tearfully saying goodbye to Angie; the second time she's had to watch a close friend be sent off to their execution, and Angie's consistent smiling throughout, even as she's being killed.
  • Angie's promise to Himiko before her execution to tell Tenko when she sees her in heaven just how strong Himiko's become in her absence is unable to come to fruition as Monokuma banishes Angie's spirit to hell during said execution.
  • In chapter 23, when Angie and Korekiyo make a promise to try and better themselves. This happens before Angie's execution, and in chapter 22, Korekiyo leaves the trial grounds with his head down.
  • Also in chapter 23; Kirumi admits to Ryoma that she wants to get to know him better, only for her to be killed shortly after by the mastermind.
  • Also the entirety of the Kiibo/Miu scene at the end of chapter 23. It hurts even more when you realize the possibility that this could have occurred on the night Kiibo died.

Chapter IV

  • Chapter 26: Miu, in a depressed drunken state, tries to get Kaede to help her with a murder plan. Kaede, naturally, refuses, and gives her a verbal dressing down for even considering it ... which dovetails into her admitting she killed Rantaro, not Shuichi, and has been haunted by that ever since. Miu, shocked, ends up breaking down crying in Kaede's arms, terrified of seeing anyone else (especially Kaede) die.
