Tabletop Game / iHunt: Imajine the Possibilities

Go To

iHunt: Imajine the Possibilities is a tabletop RPG campaign based on the game iHunt by Olivia Hill and Filamena Young. This campaign follows six millenials and one Gen Zer in their efforts to get by in a world ravaged by capitalism and the gig economy, except their gig app of choice is one where people hire them to hunt monsters freelance. That's right, monsters. Lots of vampires, some werewolves, hungry dead, demons and even some other more dangerous things lurking in the dark. Does the app require them to risk their life? Yes. Can they afford to eat on the pay from their day jobs alone? Hell no. Our plucky heroes are Georgia Maldonado, Melody Browning, Cassandra Waters, Bruce Kuznetsov, Ophelia Cooper, Josephine Carter, and Nathan Feldman.

Tropes

  • Act of True Love: Plenty throughout the game. Georgia offering her soul as collateral to save Ophelia's, Cass confessing to Death himself that she is in love with Georgia, and Ophelia's plea to Death that Georgia's survival is what's keeping her alive.
  • And I Must Scream: Ethan did this to Ophelia by removing her mouth when she was yelling at him in Bruce's Gym during S1 E7 "The Bottle Episode".
  • Angelic Abomination: Spheres of light with spider legs, floating eyeballs, a writhing pile of snakes (also known as Father Walt), and plenty more.
  • Angels, Devils and Squid: Angels, demons, and... Ethan Spencer.
  • Artifact of Doom: The Idols. From soul eating statues to figures that amplify the worst aspects of your personality to seemingly harmless stuffed bears with a penchant for innocence, the Idols are overall a pretty dangerous thing to mess with. Just ask Melody.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Angels. If anything, the power hungry outsiders have a more straightforward goal of attaining power but Angels serve the "order of things" which seems to make not a lot of sense a lot of the time.
  • Bodyguard Crush: Georgia and Cass' relationship.
  • Break the Cutie:
    • Jo during her relationship with her emotionally manipulative ex-boyfriend, Zachary "Zach" Miller.
    • Arguably also Melody. Just when it seemed their life was turning around. New purpose, new girlfriend, therapy with Nate...Kara brought it all crashing down in one move during S2E10, "Everything Happens So Much", bringing them back to rock bottom emotionally.
  • Bury Your Gays: Averted and repudiated harshly in S2 E5, "Pale White Horse". Death literally comes for our canon gay ship and the group works together to prevent it from happening and eventually succeeds in dramatic fashion.
  • Car Fu: Utilized to great effect during the Christmas Special, when Ophelia dealt with a Vampire by running it over.
  • Clown Car: When the group tries to all take one vehicle to a job. Lampshaded in the Pilot with the group's chaotic arrival to Aurora's mansion, and in S1E9: Neighborhood Disturbance when the group all piled out of Bruce's car in Benji's driveway.
  • Enemy Within: Melody facing down the evil overcritical Aunt in her head. Possibly also Jo dealing with the Innocence idol now that it is fully entrenched and Melody previously with the Ruination Idol.
  • Facepalm: Everyone when Melody grabbed a second demonic looking statue after the one from Season 1 almost ate their soul. Also Tim fairly often during games towards the group at large for no particular reason.
  • Family of Choice: How Georgia feels about the group, but especially towards Ophelia.
  • Fan Art: Due the high of the game lasting through much of the week, the players often channel that into art, photoshop edits, fics and more.
  • Holy Is Not Safe: While what they actually are is... debatable, the beings known as angels are about as far from safe as you can get. (Have you ever watched a man get burned to ashes from the inside out? Georgia has.)
  • Knows a Guy Who Knows a Guy: Nate is a man of many connections, from millennia old vampires to priests with expertise in the supernatural.
  • Mundanger: While the fear of vampires, demons, & angels is prevalent, the more grown up fears like eviction, student loans, & losing their day jobs still exist.
  • Odd Friendship: This could be said for everyone. iHunting brought them together in circumstances where they usually wouldn't have become friends.
  • Physical Scars, Psychological Scars: Georgia has acquired quite the collection, but mainly the scars from being bitten by her vampire ex-girlfriend, and those on her abdomen from being shot.
  • Positive Friend Influence: Nate, always trying to make sure the group gets help and stays (mostly) on the straight and narrow.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Jo, after some time processing everything she went through after losing the idol that was injecting her with toxic positivity. She unleashed on the group, particularly hard on poor Nate and Ophelia, but no one got out unscathed,
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: In what world would a college student, a security guard, a goth teenager, a mailman, a witch, an MMA-fighter, & a baker be friends? A world that pushes them together through monster hunting, of course.
  • Shoot the Medic First: One of Jo's stunts which allows her to take a hit in place of someone else.
  • Smooch of Victory: Georgia plants one on Cass (and on Ophelia, though that one was a wholly platonic forehead kiss) after successfully appealing to Death's better nature, and removing Cass' curse and the target on Georgia's back. Also doubled as their Big Damn Kiss.
  • Sweet Baker: Jo broken down to her bare essentials! Specifically relevant any time she brings baked goods to (usually serious) meetings, like her debut in S2E2: The Romero Special.
  • Weirdness Censor: While supernatural beings don't exactly hide themselves from the rest of the world, most people - and especially those in power - tend to conveniently ignore their existence. Just makes life easier if you ignore that your cubical buddy Jeff calls in sick every full moon.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Jo, while under influence of the Innocence Idol. Not to say she isn't usually optimistic, but the Idol exacerbates that quality.
