Shout Out / Uchu Sentai Kyuranger

Go To

  • Not only does Lucky check horoscopes and fortunes just like Honganji Jun, but his spacesuit in the first episode is very similar to the proto-Rider suit used for "Kamen Rider Jun".
  • Raptor's glasses look awfully similar to the Ultra Eye.
  • Balance's monochromatic colors, Always Camp mannerisms and being partnered with a living person make him look like a Stand (he could be described as a cross between Kakyoin's Hierophant Green and Giorno's Gold Experience). This suddenly makes sense when you realized who voiced Balance. Furthermore, In Space 17, the way Balance uses Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs against the monster is just one "muda muda" away from channeling Dio and The World. Even more apropos, he was powered by the sun. Taken even further in Space 31 where the battle inside Naga's head is very similar to the battle against the stand Lovers in Stardust Crusaders.
  • The ED uses a fisheye lens effect to make it look like the Kyurangers are standing on really small planets, a nod to The Little Prince, a French children's book that's quite popular in Japan.
  • Lucky shows Balance how to assemble the Ikea Weaponry in a manner very similar to Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen.
  • After transforming for the first time, Raptor says "In the name of Aquila, I'll punish you!".
    • Again in Space 44 Hammy uses the Hikari Kyuutama and, when she switches to Tsuki/Moon Mode, she says "Moon Kyu Energy, Make Up". Cue to transformation sequence full of ribbons, and "you will be punished" when finishing the monster.
  • The Kyulette brings to mind a similar mechanic from Juuni Senshi Bakuretsu Eto Ranger.
  • The Hebitsukai Voyager shares its silver and red color scheme with Storm Shadow, the Cobra-aligned ninja from G.I. Joe. The red snake eye emblem on its red shoulder ever resembles the Cobra insignia. This is all besides the fact that its arm mode is based on a cobra and becomes even more appropriate when Naga turns evil.
  • Not only is Yumepakkun based on the baku of Japanese yokai lore, but he takes some design cues like the toothy grin from Baku as seen in Yo-kai Watch.
  • In Space 7 Hammy can be seen mimicking the memetic "bazooka-guitar" stance from Desperado.
  • The way how Shou Ronpo obtains the power to become Ryu Commander involves sev-I mean, nine Dragon Ba-I mean, Kyutama being gath-I mean, giving power to the Ryu Kyutama. Then Shenlo-I mean, the spirit of the Draco constellation asks the person for his desire.
  • Space 8 starts off with Operation Stardust. Unlike the previous Operation Stardust, this one does not involve a Colony Drop.
  • Space 10 has Shou ordering Raptor to fire the "Orion Cannon" despite the Orion having no such weaponry. Or Shou just forgot which space battleship he was on.
    • Space 33 has the Orion's replacement finally fire said Orion Cannon, and the entire charging/firing sequence is lifted pretty much straight from Yamato.
  • Madako can regenerate From a Single Cell with a randomly different personality, much like the Doctor, or Groot between films.
  • Space 12 reveals that young Lucky is sent away from his destroyed planet with a pod. Hmm...
  • Space 14 is a massive one to the legend of Urashima Taro, with a Space Dragon Palace resort and even the box that ages you by 100 years despite no Year Outside, Hour Inside taking place.
  • Trailers for The Movie feature a planet-sized weapon called the Geth Star.
    • Additionally, the subtitle of The Movie is "The Geth Invader's Counterattack. The movie even involves a glowing green mech preventing a giant object from colliding with the Earth!
  • In Space 25 Maadako's latest incarnation does World Order's dance from the idol concert portion of the "Have a Nice Day" music video.
  • A twofer in Space 28:
  • After its Heroic Sacrifice, the Orion's hand briefly looks like it's making a thumbs up. Space 32 in general seems to borrow a lot from Going Merry's last moments.
  • The Battle Orion Ship can be seen as the Sentai equivalent of SDF-1 Macross, albeit on a smaller scale.
  • Space 35. We hear an early Hoshi Minato theme, intended as an uplifting pop number, which just happens to start with the words "You Raise Me Up" (in English no less.)
  • Space 36 reveals that the name of Lucky's father is Aslan.
  • After striking an Indaver in Space 38, Xiao quips "You are already dead."
  • Space 39:
    • The first half is pretty much a Yoshihiko-esque Dragon Quest parody.
    • The evil that lived in Professor Anton is apparently a tentacled thing hiding in a metal canister for protection, not unlike a Dalek.
    • Lucky becomes a witch who causes explosions by saying a catchphrase. Hmm...
  • The baseball Monster of the Week in Space 40 has a Finishing Move throw that delivers clothes-shredding damage straight out of Shaolin Soccer.
  • When Hammie uses Hercules Kyutama, the "muscles appear" animation from the Popeye cartoons is reproduced.
  • The enemy forces being called Jark Matter and having a weapon called the Geth Star brings to mind the GEATHJERK Federation from The Wonderful 101. Robots, ships, weapons, and the final boss are made of a substance called Jerk Matter. They even have similar goals (specifically, invading and conquering Earth) but with far different reasons. The High Commander of GEATHJERK, Gimme, is even based on the Flatwoods Monster just like the Indavers.
