• The Chaos faction in general takes inspiration from Michael Moorcock's Elric Saga and the Eternal Champion metaseries, where the gods of Chaos led by Arioch are major antagonists, whose magical influence turns their followers into grotesque animal/human hybrids kind of like the Beastmen.
  • The High Elves are partially based on the Melniboneans, being a race of elves with pointy helmets that live on a large island and use dragons as their ultimate fighting units.
• The old Halfling army list published in White Dwarf introduces a thinly veiled parody of the Fellowship of the Ring called the Comradeship.
