Everytime you see a reference in these videos

Like any good TF2 fan animator, ceno0 enjoys his Shout Outs to any and all sorts of media. This duology, however, takes the cake, as it has a fatal degree of Reference Overdosed. Watch them at your own risk, if you don't want to to pause the video every second to see all the references, Easter Eggs or Funny Background Events.

To give you an idea on how many references the series has. There are two videos detailing the references in EXTREME alone. With ceno0 himself stating that while it does a good job covering the references, there's still more to be found. Here's a video for the references in the first part.

Pootis Engage

  • The Area 51 Guards have a Wrench in the Gears mech as a part of their forces. For all the good it does them against the Heavies.
    • The sound effects used for the mech are all from the Mechwarrior 4 video game.
  • The "anime thighs" on BLU Heavy's Conscientious Objector are actually Quetzalcoatl's from Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid.
  • One character seen in the bunker is a Heavy dressed like Mr. X, and he even does the same intro where he destroys a camera.
  • The Mercenary inside the bunker is dressed in the getup of Isaac Clarke, and his segment is a straight homage to the game with the same over-the-shoulder perspective and gameplay elements.
  • Mr. H chases the Isaac Clarke Merc with the audio and walk cycle from "STEP!", an Image Song from THE iDOLM@STER: Cinderella Girls. A loop of the walk cycle and the song's instrumental later plays during the credits.
  • After being chased by Mr. H, the Isaac Clarke Merc finds himself face-to-face with the two Heavies, who are not only in the same arena where you can fight Ornstein and Smough but both stand in for the two bosses.
    • During this scene, the background music changes to the instrumental version of "Stains of Time".
  • When he gets pummeled by the RED Heavy, the Isaac Clarke Merc gets a number of overlaying Game Over screens from various games, including Mass Effect, Dark Souls, Metal Gear and others.

Pootis Engage // EXTREME

  • The anime-styled intro for EXTREME has quite a few references.
  • In the same vein as the Tiny Desk Engineer in the first installment, a Rei Chiquita/Ayanami Fumo plushes makes cameo appearances throughout the background of EXTREME.
  • The map for the underground part of Area 51 is based on the Escape from Tarkov lab map.
  • The guard that spots the two Heavies looking at the map is from Open Fortress, uses sound bites from Jerma's Green Screen Collection, and him walking in on the Heavies is accompanied by the "MENACING" kanji.
  • When entering the "SEX" locker room, a Captcha presents the Heavies with the choice of "ass or tits". The Heavies' response? "Both? Both? Both. Both is good."
  • The uncolored Sol-dier is introduced in a way similar to the Billy Herrington/Gachimuchi memes (specifically based on the "Lords of The Locker Room"), even the line he says before the fight is a direct reference.
"Hey buddy, I think you've got the wrong door. The Letter/Weeb Club's two blocks down."
"I'll show you who's boss of this gym/facility!"
  • As the trio brawl in the cafeteria, it's somewhat based on the library fight in The Amazing Spiderman.
    • The fight between him and the two Heavies looking almost exactly like something from Guilty Gear Strive in the latter half.
  • While the RED Heavy and the Sol-dier are spinning midair, we get a shot of the former choking the latter in a similar way to the chokeposting memes, before Sol-dier breaks out of it by poking him in the eyes.
  • After the BLU Heavy subdues the Sol-dier with a Tornado DDT, the RED Heavy runs at them "Officer Earl"-style.
  • The move that BLU Heavy uses to send Sol-dier to the ceiling is Rugal's Genocide Cutter.
  • Everytime one of the Heavies are knocked out by Sol-dier they can be seen doing the Family Guy death pose in the background. We even get shots of them in different angles through the fight to fully show off.
  • The Comically Buff Sol-dier notably uses many moves of Sol Badguy (hence his name), and he even takes a page from Potemkin's book by using his rocket launchers to perform a version of Heavenly Potemkin Buster. BLU Heavy meanwhile utilizes his own variation of Jack-O's moveset. Which includes the obvious reference to the Jack-O pose meme.
  • As the Buff Sol-dier sends BLU Heavy to space, you can spot a Lucrehulk-class battleship, alongside other CIS/Trade Federation ships above Earth's orbit.
  • While sending the BLU Heavy to the moon, the two are spotted by Engineer Astronauts. Whom promptly panic and try to float away from their path. In a scene that's similar to the minion in space trying to "swim" away from Gru's rocket in Despicable Me.
  • The cutaways of the Sol-dier sending the BLU Heavy back to Earth from the Moon is an obvious reference to the eyecatches of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
    • Following after that, the scene of BLU Heavy coming back to life is based on the "Gattai" sequences from said anime, punctuated by the BLU Heavy getting a pair of Kamina's iconic sunglasses. This is accompanied by the cover of "Fly Me to the Moon" from Bayonetta.
  • The Sol-dier delivering a punch so strong that it explodes BLU Heavy into giblets and the effect on the Heavy before he explodes is definitely a reference to Fist of the North Star.
  • As the sequence finishes, the BLU Heavy turns Super Saiyan for a split second that sends Sol-dier flying.
  • When seeing BLU Heavy get turned into giblets, the look of horror on RED Heavy's face is a near-replica of the horrified Takashi in AKIRA.
  • The funeral scene for the bloodied sandvich is based on Kainé's Hut from NieR: Automata with the song playing for the scene being Kainé (Salvation).
  • Being left stumped by the Heavies having a funeral for the ruined sandwich, the Buff Sol-dier has this to say:
  • After the two Heavies finally spot the "ANIME GIRLS" room, for a split second they are seen doing the infamous "Soyjaks Pointing" meme.
  • As the Heavies find and approach the Anime Girl room, the G-Man himself appears and attempts to stop BLU Heavy from reaching it. Needless to say, it doesn't work, with the BLU Heavy just shoving him out of the way.
  • When the BLU Heavy jumpscares ceno0 himself for better camera angles, it is accompanied by him giving him the People's Eyebrow with the Vine Boom sound effect, for good measure.
  • The anime girls include but are not limited to: Ramlethal Valentine, Seras Victoria, ENA, Ruby Rose, HMS Formidable, KMS Roon, Tifa Lockhart, and a few others (one of them being the Demoman).
    • On that note, the aforementioned Ruby Rose model (and outfit) is actually based on the design of Ruby in R34 comics made by former porn artist JLullaby.
  • The BLU Heavy's reaction upon getting better camera angles and seeing the extra thicc anime girls are very reminiscent of the "Mr. Incredible Becomes Canny" memes.
  • When first saying "Sex... NOW" in Ending A, RED Heavy is seen in the background wearing a helmet and mimicking one of the Soldier's speeches in "Meet The Soldier".
  • Ending B, not only has Coach from Left 4 Dead 2 pop up but for some reason he delivers one hell of an ear rape. His audio comes from this video.
  • Ending D has two; first is when the Sol-dier wakes up after getting his skull turned into jelly, he wakes up in a similar manner to one of Billy Herrington's films and the second is that the ending is called "Kingdom Come" which is an obvious reference to the rather raunchy memes involving said song.
