New Kids on the Rock

  • Neil is watching Spongebob Squarepants in his introductory scene. True to form, the episode is "SB-129", which was was released on December 31, 1999, the very last day of The '90s.
  • In Webisode 1, Neil points out "This is just like National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets!"
  • In "Bully Troubles", Neil is seen rehearsing with the puppets from Potter Puppet Pals.
  • The "Curse of Spooky Manor" is a fairly straight Expy of Scooby-Doo, right up until the total subversion of the central "Scooby-Doo" Hoax.
  • "The Vigilante" features Ryan dressing all in black and putting on a dramatic, gravelly voice to fight crime. Yes, this was made the month after The Dark Knight came out, why do you ask?
  • In "Ryan's Christmas Wish", they recruit the help of Frosty the Snowman in finding their dog.
  • Neil, in "Ryan Turns Into a Dog": "This is just like that film, The Shaggy Dog, starring Tim Allen!"
  • In "The Money Tree": "Do you know whose face is on that dollar, Kevin? A great man." "David Bowie." "-George Washington."
  • And a headline from the music video section: "Prince Hired to Compose Broadway Musical about 'Fart Wars'"
  • "Computer Fighters" is drowning in them. Including:
    • Kid Chameleon on the cover of Vid Kid, the gaming magazine
    • Sonic the Hedgehog and Garfield appear (as part of the Sonic and Garfield Sega pack art) on Kid Vid as well.
    • Hell, Vid Kid being named for Kid Vid, from Burger King Kid's Club.
    • Kevin is shown playing Pac-Man... on a Revolution X machine.
    • Recognize the narrator in the ad for the Computer Fighters tournament? That's none other than Jon St. John, the voice of Duke Nukem!
    • According to the behind the scenes video, "Vatican City 1999" was modeled directly after the skyscrapers in Twisted Metal 2. In fact, they even got Mel McMurrin (who voiced Calypso up until Head-On) to be the voice of the Computer Fighters arcade cabinet.
    • The beige jumpsuits and different colored helmets and elbow pads they are seen wearing when they end up in the game are clearly a reference to Nick Arcade.
