- Erma and her mother were obviously inspired by Kayako Saeki and Sadako Yamamura in appearance and powers.
- According to Word of God, the title character is named after Irma from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987).
- Erma pulls off a Bullet Dodges You stunt like in The Matrix, but with Nerf darts instead of actual bullets.
- One of the football players in the game Sam was watching (heavily implied to be the quarterback) was one David Kessler. For bonus points, the team he's in is called the Wolves.
- Some of the titles in the library in "Ancient Relic" include Let the Right One In, The Call of Cthulhu, Carrie, Cuckoo Clock of Doom and The Monkey's Paw. The title panel has the Necronomicon in it.
- The end of the Dodgeball arc seems to be one toward The Wonder Years episode, "Loosiers" (Though in that case it was a basketball game. The outcome was still the same: the sadistic coach getting beaned by a stray ball).
- One strip has Erma trying to get Terry's attention while he's playing a Nintendo 3DS game. Considering that the title is "Hey! Listen!", it can be safe to assume he was playing Ocarina of Time 3D.
- In "The Summoning", has Amy use a Bloody Mary-esque summoning ritual to contact Erma and get notes for class.
- On Thanksgiving, we find out the family and friends of Erma's father consists of his prankster brother Freddy whom he describes as a "nightmare", his other brother Michael who sneaks around and scares people on Halloween, his friend Jason whom he had fun at summer camp with despite being a poor swimmer, and his mother Pamela. There's also Regan (Michael's wife and ergo Erma's aunt), who got sick last time.
- In the comic Noise! Noise! Noise!, Erma's methods of keeping her dad and his friends during a football game quiet might remind you of a certain nightmare demon and one of his kills in the third film he appears in. Bonus points for the "Prime Time" on the TV screen.
- The strip involving Erma and Amy playing in leaves is entitled "Pile of Secrets"
- The town Erma's family lives in is Blairwood.
- Several from "Invasion of Privacy", from the title panel having Erma hugging a Facehugger, a reporter asking if they're among us, a cowboy fighting a vampire, and one of the items in Erma's closet is the Number 2 Journal.
- Felicia interrogating Erma about being a WUPer in "Discovered" plays similarly to the English Dub of Panty asking Stocking about her diet, with Felicia even making the same face.
- In one Halloween story arc, Erma and her friends take a break to see what candy they got. Naturally when it's her turn, she pulls out a rock... which she proceeds to eat.
- The name of one of the comic's arcs is titled "The Rats in the School Walls".
- Part 18 of the story arc "The Rats in the School Walls" has Terry grabbing a golf bag filled with a golf club, a baseball bat, and a hockey stick similar to Casey Jones's choice of weaponry from TMNT.
- Erma's principal is called Mr. Phibes, referencing The Abominable Dr. Phibes.
- "Discover" has Felicia asking about Erma about her Warrior Unicorn Princess fandom in the same matter as Panty asking Stocking if she's on a diet.
- The Fundraiser Fiasco arc includes a man heavily implied to be Eustace Bagge. He ends up biting off more than he can chew when he tries to scare Erma.
- In "The Search 21", Erma telekinetically takes a cart full of cabbages as part of the mess of items to assault the yuki-onna with, the vendor of said cart looking an awful lot like a hitotsume-kozo version of the Cabbage seller in Avatar: The Last Airbender.
- Erma's dentist is Dr. Craven.
- Godzilla shows up in the background of the Night Parade when Erma starts flying above the trees.
- Part of Erma's Nightmare Sequence in "The Aftermath 1" has her hiding in a bathroom stall, the walls of which are graffitied with references to A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), Gravity Falls, Twin Peaks, The Owl House, and Amphibia.
