Silverpoint is a British teen scifi series. The series follows a group of students at an adventure camp who discover a strange artefact in the woods. They try to uncover the mysteries of the camp, including the fate of four children who mysteriously disappeared twenty years ago, never to be seen again.The first series consists of 13 episodes and was first broadcast on CBBC in March 2022.
This show provides examples of:
- Accidental Time Travel: When Louis, Kaz, Glen, and Bea try to escape the simulation, they end up been sent back to 1997 instead.
- A Glitch in the Matrix: The group realise something isn’t quite right after some unexpected encounters: A dinosaur attacks the camp, Glen meets a mermaid, and Kaz’s mum comes to find her.
- Air-Vent Passageway: Kaz escapes from her cell using this method.
- Big Sister Instinct: While Kaz is not Meg’s real sister, she they become close and she becomes an older sister figure for Meg, who is missing her actual big sister that she is close to.
- Get Back to the Future: Louis, Kaz, Glen, and Bea must figure out how to activate the Artefact and return to the present after they are sent to 1997.
- Lotus-Eater Machine: For some of them, at least. While in the simulation, Glen gets to talk to the girl he has a crush on, who is interested in return (and is also a mermaid). Kaz gets to reconnect with her mum.
- Newspaper Dating: When Bea is trying to process that they have travelled back in time, Kaz shows her a newspaper that shows that it is 1997.
- Ominous Visual Glitch: The trees literally start glitching as the simulation breaks down.
- Stable Time Loop: Louis only goes to Silverpoint to investigate the mysterious disappearance of four children from the camp in 1997. However, it turns out the that the four kids who disappeared in the first place were Louis, Kaz, Glen, and Bea, as they returned home to the present. But if Louis had never come to the camp, they never would have ended up in the past to disappear, and he would not have gone to Silverpoint.
- The Men in Black: Fisher arrives with a sinister group of people in black suits who have come to investigate the events at the camp. Everyone assumes they have been sent by the government, but it turns out they are a group who are following instructions the Artefact itself gave them through dreams.
- Write Back to the Future: Bea leaves a note with her dad in 1997 for Meg, which has the date and time she must be at the Artefact to power it up and allow them to return home.
