Left to right: Jodie, Amy, and Sarah

Pivoting is a Fox sitcom set in Long Island, following three women as they make impulsive, life-changing decisions following the death of their childhood friend. Amy (Eliza Coupe), a Workaholic television producer who is afraid of familial responsibility, decides to spend more time with her children, Jodie (Ginnifer Goodwin), an unhappy housewife, develops a crush on her personal trainer and decides to cheat on her husband, and Sarah (Maggie Q), quits her successful but stressful job as a doctor to become a grocery store cashier. Chaos ensues.

The series premiered on January 9, 2022. It was cancelled by FOX after one season.

Contains examples of:

  • Auto Erotica: Jodie and Matt try to have sex in her car, but it's too cluttered with her kids' seats.
  • Basement-Dweller: Matt lives in his mom's basement and apparently she won't let him have women over as he tries to hide Jodie when she's down there. Downplayed as he's a handsome Dumb Jock personal trainer instead of a nerd, and it's unclear why he still lives with her.
  • Black Comedy: The series has a dark sense of humor, with Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonists.
  • Bland-Name Product: Sarah creates an account on the app Only Thrills, an obvious reference to OnlyFans.
  • Dumb Jock: Matt is a personal trainer and isn't the brightest.
  • Informed Attribute: In one episode, Amy tries to give up cursing, which she is stated to do all the time, yet we never actually hear her say any major curses due to the show's rating.
  • Making Love in All the Wrong Places:
    • Sarah hooks up with another woman at work in the store room.
    • Amy and Henry do it right on the desk in his office.
  • Married to the Job: While she is married and has children, Amy spends most of her time working at the start of the series, which she attempts to rectify.
  • Modesty Bedsheet: After having sex with Brian Sarah is shown lying beside him as a blanket covers her up to chest level.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Sarah has more scenes where she is in revealing outfits or semi-nude than the rest of the cast.
  • Nice Guy: Unlike his wife Amy, Henry is a very friendly person.
  • Only Sane Man: Henry is the most sensible character in the main cast.
  • Plot-Triggering Death: The death of their close friend leads the protagonists to pivot their lives, inciting the story.
  • Sympathetic Adulterer: Jodie is cheating on her husband, but is portrayed relatively sympathetically because her husband is a huge jerk.
  • Token Minority Couple: Sarah's an Asian-American who's only paired up with women of color, which includes her ex-wife. Brian, the sole man she has sex with, is black too.
  • Twofer Token Minority: Sarah's a bisexual woman of East Asian heritage. The queer women who she's shown as attracted to are either black or women of color with unclear ethncity as well.
  • Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist: All of the three main protagonists are selfish individuals, especially Amy.
  • Workaholic: Amy obsesses over her job, often at the expense of her family.
