Miracle Planet (Japanese title: The Great Evolution of the Earth) is an 2005 documentary mini series, co-produced by NHK and the National Film Board of Canada, that aired on the Discovery Channel in Canada and on the Science Channel in the US.
The series focuses on the major mass extinction events that have happened throughout Earth's history and how life, against all odds, managed to survive and adapt to these extinctions, paving way to the human race.
Miracle Planet provides examples of:
- Apocalypse Wow: The extinction events that the documentary shows, particularly the large asteroid crashing into the Earth and the Great Dying, are pretty awe-inspiring and terrifying at the same time.
- Bloodless Carnage: We only see blood when an animal is feeding on a carcass.
