VEI Complete Collection DVD release of Matt Houston

An American crime drama that follows a private investigator (Lee Horsley) from a wealthy Texas family as he helps people dealing with criminals and other problems.

The show also stars Pamela Hensley, George Wyner, Lincoln Kilpatrick, Buddy Ebsen, John Aprea, and Penny Santon.

It aired from September 1982 to 1985 on ABC.

Tropes for the series:

  • Character Title: Matt Houston.
  • Friend on the Force: Lt. Novelli in the first season and Lt. Hoyt for the rest of the series.
  • How Unscientific!: One episode in which a faked alien abduction was somehow involved in a crime that Matt is investigating. Then, at about the 3/4 mark of the episode, Houston, driving by himself, is actually abducted by the stereotypical little gray buggers. He doesn't remember it happening, there's not witnesses, and it has no effect whatsoever on the plot of the episode, and is never mentioned again.
  • Hunting the Most Dangerous Game: One episode had a sporting-goods magnate hunting athletes in this manner.
  • Last-Name Basis: Pretty much everyone calls Houston by his last name. The only person who doesn't is Houston's Uncle Roy (Buddy Ebsen), who joined the cast in the last season. Uncle Roy calls him by his real first name, Matlock.
  • Real After All: Matt is abducted by real aliens in an episode where he's investigating a (fake) claim of abduction covering up a murder. Of course, he doesn't remember, no one else sees it, and the abduction has no relevance to the rest of the plot at all
