Dr. G Medical Examiner was a reality documentary entailing the various cases of the titular medical examiner, Dr.Jan Garavaglia. Her cases would explore her times in both Orlando and Texas usually with a major twist at the end. It ran for 8 seasons.

This work contains examples of:

  • Abusive Parents: Sadly, some people are killed by their parents after months or years of abuse.
  • An Aesop: Take care of your health, Dr. G makes every effort to stress how many deaths could've been avoided had they just paid attention to their symptoms or took better care of themselves.
  • Anyone Can Die: Most of the time the people who died were normal people living their lives. Even when the person had a bad past, the show mentions they've been trying to turn their life around.
  • The Coroner: The titular medical examiner
  • Disproportionate Retribution: A double one. One episode has the victim vandalize a car in retaliation for the guy leaving it parked at a restaurant. The owner of the car responds by breaking into the restaurant and killing the man by stepping on his head.
  • Incriminating Indifference: Subverted. One episode has a girlfriend leave her boyfriend as he's having a seizure and dying. Dr. Garavaglia understandably suspects she did something to him despite her insistence that he had a seizure disorder. An autopsy reveals they were both wrong: the boyfriend had actually been lying about his disorder to cover up the fact he was addicted to painkillers, and the addiction had caused the seizures. Dr. G actually found nothing in his medical records about a seizure disorder, but instead found claims of chronic pain; she determines the girlfriend fully believes his lies and that his death had been caused  because she was so used to him being fine after his seizures she just assumed he would be fine again. She's ultimately acquitted of any wrongdoing, and Dr. G points out that she was a victim as well.
  • Karma Houdini: It's heavily implied in one episode that a woman poisoned her husband then shot him when he wasn't dying fast enough, but since they couldn't prove that she poisoned him, she got off with a $15,000 fine.
  • Riddle for the Ages: One case was a Hurricane Katrina disaster relief volunteer who died of idiopathic anaphalyaxis note . Since her lunch was too far from the occurrence to kill her, Dr. G and the viewers are left wondering what caused it.
  • Too Dumb to Live: The guy who thought it would be a good idea to lay down and sleep on a train track while waiting to be picked from work.
  • Tragic Mistake: An absolutely devastating one in "Deadly Remedies" occurs when a child with ADD is prescribed Ritalin and switched to the generic methylphenidate. Unfortunately, the pharmacy accidentally filled it with a highly powerful narcotic methadone. His parents thought the pill looked different due to it being a different pill and kept giving it to him till it killed him. It wasn't just their lives who were ruined, the pharmacy shut down out of both the ensuing lawsuit and remorse for killing the kid.
