Crazy Fun Park is an Australian teen TV show, with all ten episodes released on ABCME in January 2023.

Chester’s best friend Mapplethorpe dies in an accident at an abandoned fun park called Crazy Fun Park. He gets caught between continuing his own life, and spending his nights at Crazy Fun Park, where the ghosts of all the kids who died there reside, including Mapplethorpe. Along with new friend Violetta, Chester befriends the dead kids and learns more about the history of the Park.

Crazy Fun Park provides examples of:

  • Afterlife Angst: Not surprising considering how many of the characters are ghosts. A major example is Mapplethorpe seeing how badly his mum is coping after his death.

  • Amusement Park of Doom: Crazy Fun Park is now abandoned, but there have been a large number of accidents resulting in death there, both before and after it closed.

  • Jacob Marley Apparel: All the ghosts wear are wearing what they wore when they died.

  • Crappy Carnival: Crazy Fun Park creator Henley couldn’t find a corner he didn’t cut.

  • Fortune Teller: There is a mechanical fortune teller at the Park called Baba Vanga. It turns out it is based off a real living person, also named Baba Vanga.

  • Friendly Ghost: Mapplethorpe is literally a ghost of Chester’s friend. Throughout the show, both Chester and Violetta become friends with the other kids, who are friendly. (Well, most of them.)

  • Ghost Amnesia: Zed can’t remember anything before he died. In episode 8 he begins to regain his memories.

  • Hall of Mirrors: One of the rules at Crazy Fun Park is ‘don’t enter the mirror maze’, and it is also the setting for the climax of the last episode. It turns out the mirrors show you that which you most want to forget.

  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: Chester and Mapplethorpe, who spend most of their time together. At one point they refer to each other as ‘brothers’.

  • Invisible to Normals: Most people aren’t able to see the ghosts. Violetta suggests that people can only see the ghosts if they want to. Sometimes the ghosts are able to be heard but not seen, such as Bridget hearing Destinee.

  • Losing Your Head: Nimrod died by being decapitated, and in death has a removable head.

  • Missing Mom: Violetta’s mum left her and her dad; Violetta is very angry with her for doing this.

  • New Transfer Student: Violetta is new to the school in episode one.

  • Only Friend: At the start of the show, Chester and Mapplethorpe appear to be each other’s only friend.

  • Perky Goth: Destinee wears a goth outfit, and a newspaper article said she always wore black. However, most of the time she is reasonably cheerful.

  • Small Town Boredom: Chester wants to move to the city of Melbourne to follow his artistic dreams. Mapplethorpe is less interested in leaving.

  • Tragic Bromance: Basically the premise of the show: Chester’s best friend Mapplethorpe dies in an accident and he has to work through it.

  • Undeathly Pallor: The ghosts look a bit like they haven’t gotten enough sleep, with circles under their eyes.
