"There's already two s in XX Xbo XXX, you dozy gits, this name's starting to look like a defaced game of Tic-Tac-Toe!"

A variant of XXXtremeKoolLetterz, seen used in both work titles and in names.

The letter XXX is already fascinating and cool, so double the XXXXXX, double the awesomeness! Right? Much like XXXtremeKoolLetterz, it's often meant to evoke badassery, or lend the show an air of youthful hipness and coolness. Alternatively it's often associated with Porn Names, especially when you add a third XXXXXXXX Xs. Tripling the XXXXXXXX Xs is also associated with moonshine.

How eXXXactly are you supposed to pronounce this is usually unclear.

Not to be confused with The xx, though they are an eXXXample of this trope.

  • The Most Interesting Man in the World doesn't always drink beer, but when he does, he prefers Dos Equis (XX ). Stay thirsty, my friends.

    Anime and Manga
  • After War Gundam X has, of course, the Mid-Season Upgrade MS, the "Gundam Double XXX". However, this is justified in that it was designed to possess double the firepower of the Gundam X, as well as two Sattelite Cannons, essentially making it twice the Gundam the X was. It's also played with in that despite its pronunciation, "XXXXXX" appears nowhere in its name or designation.
  • However, the designations of the Gundams in Mobile Suit Gundam Wing play this straight, with all of their alphanumerics beginning with "XXXG".
  • DARLING in the FRANXX, after the titular mecha, in turn named after their creator Dr. Franxx. The XX turns out later to have grater significance: chromosomes. Kla XX Xosaurs and Fran XXXXXX alike are built of bio-metal with entirely XXXXXX DNA. Dr. Werner Frank changed his name after meeting the Kla XX Xosaur Princess and going loopy for her.
  • Love Gene XX: is a sci-fi yuri romance set in a futuristic Lady Land- in this case the "XXXXXX" refers to the fact that the love interests (and all other characters) have XXXXXX chromosomes.

  • The German show Reläxx.
  • The main character (and host) of Double the Fist, Steve Fo XXXXXX.
  • In one episode of How I Met Your Mother, a fake magazine (featuring women bodybuilders) called Muscle Sexxy is mentioned.

    Music
  • Scooter's lead vocalist H.P. Ba XXXXX Xter, whose real name is actually Hans Peter Geerdes. H.P. first started using the surname Ba XXXXX Xter back in the 80s when he was part of the synthpop group Celebrate The Nun, and it was no-doubt chosen because of gothic coolness associated with the double XXX.
  • Underworld's Born Slippy (N.U.XXX.XXX.)
  • They Might Be Giants' "S~E~XXX~XXX~Y", which is always pronounced as the 5 letters. Not eXXXplained, eXXXcept "because it's eXXXXXXXXXtra, baby".
  • The xx named themselves after this, although they were originally XXX until they realised there were other bands with that name (their album cover was kept the same).
  • There are numerous bootleg compilations called Ultra Rare Tra XXXXXX or Tra XXX. Calling them 'Tra XXXXXX' was a way of disguising the fact that they weren't always songs.
  • Outkast's Speakerbo XXXXXXXXX/The Love Below.
  • Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe, Si XXXXXX:A.M., etc.
  • Basement Ja XXXXXX

  • Unrelated to either Redd or Jamie, original Ultravox singer John Foxx (real name Dennis Leigh).
  • Baseball Hall of Famer Jimmie Foxx. Yep, that was his real name. Yep, his nickname was "Double X."
  • XXX-rated movies. This is really just a marketing gimmick, implying "X" is dirty. (Even if a lot of legitimate films were rated X.) And that "XXX" is three times dirtier.
    • And of course all the, er, adult, performers who add multiple X's to their stage names, on the same principle.
