Sandbox / The Last Wick Check

Go To

The Last Title is said to be a Search-Generated Index title trope and non-tropeworthy. This wick check will examine its tropeworthiness and number of ZCEs.

Wicks checked: 55/55.

  • Quick wick check results:
    • 43/55 or 78% are just ZCEs and chairs-y examples with little context.
      • 15/43 or 35% are just "the title/the name" and nothing more.
    • 8/55 or 15% are examples that provide context than just the work's name.
    • 4/55 or 7% are other unsorted examples.

  • Long analysis + final verdict: A lot of the examples are just repeating the work's title or just stating "the title/name" as context which doesn't add anything new that the reader can't already tell. Some examples, however, explain what "the last" refers to in the title or are an example of a work following this naming pattern more than once. The remaining examples are from descriptions and indexes.

  • Solutions:
    • Cut, though it might be too extreme since providing context for the trope is possible and easy.
    • Or index-ify it.

  1. Art.Sistine Chapel: Borrowing from the Biblical concept, the painting above the altar is called The Last Judgement and shows the souls of Earth moving to their final positions in the afterlife.
  2. Art.The Last Supper: The title refers to the Passover dinner the Apostles are having as Jesus informs them one Apostle is a traitor. It gets the "last" in there because the apostle's betrayal ended with Jesus's arrest and crucifixion.
  3. Fanfic. The Last War: Though, as noted under Nonindicative Name, it's unclear as to what the "Last War" of the title is.
  4. Film.Last Vegas: The title refers to the advanced age of the protagonists meaning that the odds are good they won't get to do this again.
  5. Literature. The Last Hero: The Last Hero. An unusually ambiguous example, in fact; the last heroes appear to be Cohen and the horde, but the title could as easily describe Carrot, a hero for a new era.
  6. Music.Evanescence: "The Last Song I'm Wasting on You", a hodgepodge of lyrical bits and pieces over a simple piano track. The "you" is almost certainly Ben Moody.
  7. MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic.Tropes L To P: "The Last Roundup", "The Last Laugh", "The Last Crusade", and the third part of the three-part Grand Finale, "The Last Problem". — Naming follows a pattern
  8. Recap.Duck Tales 2017 S 3 E 22 The Last Adventure: The third with this format following "The Last Crash of the Sunchaser!" and "Last Christmas!".

    Other/unsorted (4/55)

  2. Grand Finale: Sometimes accompanied by The Last Title.
  3. Title: Requiem: Compare The Last Title.
  4. Title Tropes: Having the word "Last" somewhere in the title of a work (sometimes an intended Grand Finale).
