Running Gag / Max0r

Go To

Being a channel dedicated for memetic "Incorrect Review" and "Incorrect Summary" videos, Max0r often includes a lot of recurring jokes in his videos.

    open/close all folders
    Multiple Games
  • Max0r likes saying he's a small blonde anime girl in real life, using edited clips of Elise Toudou from Student Council's Discretion as a representation. He does this while showcasing a deep male baritone voice.
  • Max0r repeatedly misinterpreting the title of a given game as referring to the player character no matter how much of a stretch it might be, beginning with the Cyber Punk and continuing with a colorful cast of non-characters such as John Bloodborne, John Doom, John Impact, John Fantasy, John World and Elden John. The joke has particularly become quite popular among his fans, referenced in his trope page as John Trope and with his Youtube comments suggesting names like Jane Control and John and Jeff Yakuza.
  • The conflict between the forces of "based" and "cringe" in Metal Gear games is treated like a Forever War, akin to the feud between the Assassins and the Templars of Assassin's Creed.
  • Whenever a stealth section occurs, especially in a Metal Gear game, he often quotes the infamous "I'm dummy thicc and the clap of my asscheeks keeps alerting the guards" meme.
  • When talking about very masculine characters or Rated M for Manly things, Max0r will show an image of Astolfo, who qualifies as an example of Dude Looks Like a Lady.
  • China has plenty of recurring gags involving it, especially games like Genshin Impact that are directly influenced by it:
  • The screen glitching out and zooming into someone's face when they're annoyed or confused.
  • Every time Hideo Kojima is first introduced in a video, he makes the name a Mondegreen Gag, such as "His-Day-Old Coat-Jim-Mom" in Metal Gear Solid V and "Head-ache Ko-jingles" in Metal Gear Rising.
  • Multiple videos feature Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos as a villain.
    • He's the main villain in Ace Combat 7, starting a war because people are taking too long on their bathroom breaks.
    • In the Devil May Cry 5 summary, Urizen eats a magic apple because he wants to become Jeff Bezos and avoid paying taxes.
    • In Yakuza 0 Max0r compares players stretching the limits of the hostesses in Cabaret Club Czar to being "the Bezos of cabaret".
    • In Metal Gear Rising, Sundowner is actually "Jacked/Buff Bezos".
  • Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson being presented as the ultimate force of destruction.
  • The plane combat games (Ace Combat 7, Ace Combat Zero, Project Wingman) have some overarching gags.
  • He really likes Tsunomaki Watame from hololive, often randomly mentioning wanting to collab with her. As of Elden Ring, he seems to have moved on to Ceres Fauna, also from Hololive, though he usually doesn't mention wanting to collab with her. He does, however, present her as a vengeful goddess who demands blood.
  • During rapid montages, he will often insert footage from hololive with strange labels, often relating to creationism.
  • He frequently adds in Fortnite characters doing the Default Dance, or makes the characters in the games he reviews do it.
  • Whenever a character takes a big hit, he likes to add in the ringing sound from Taco Bell commercials, the Vine Boom sound effect, the LEGO Yoda death sound effect, and/or the "PUSSY!" sound bite from The Lonely Island "Like a Boss". Oftentimes they'll be interchangeably used for multiple hits in a row.
  • Pitbull dogs are presented as child-murdering monsters.
  • He regularly adds in Walter White's collapse.
  • Anytime a dog-like enemy is a boss (Blade Wolf, Red Wolf of Radagon), the "What the dog doin'?" sound clip plays.
  • He likes to have some villains actually start to come around to the view of the heroes... Only for something ridiculous to derail their Heel–Face Turn. In the case of Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, it's Captain Torres finding the notion of handing over his anime material more of a deal-breaker as part of the terms of surrender than handing over his nukes, and Vergil in Devil May Cry 5 almost stands down in the face of Nero's argument right before Nero demands that Vergil pays his child support.
  • Anytime someone goes completely insane (Khan Makyr, Gehrman), they start justifying throwing money away on Genshin Impact.
  • Max0r often references Genshin Impact in general when it comes to both his Perverse Sexual Lust and people being insane, particularly his malding for how, despite spending so much money, he still can't seem to roll Ganyu, which is the basis for many characters often engaging in money laundering, monstrously illegal businesses, and plunging themselves into debt all for the sake of getting her.
  • Every time something blows up, you can hear Morshu going "Bombs?". He also makes references to Margaret Thatcher, with the Irish song “Come Out, Ye Black and Tans” playing in the background.
  • He regularly inserts Jerma985 memes into his videos, especially the "imposter is sus" meme.
  • He makes plenty of references to Among Us in general, where alongside the Jerma "sussy imposter" example, he also uses Stonetoss' "Amogus", mentions characters needing to "vent", and states that asshole characters need to be ejected.
  • He makes a lot of Family Guy references as well:
    • The motivations of some characters (Raiden, Ranni) usually involve "bringing back those good ol' fashioned values upon which we used to rely."
    • Some dogs are also called Brian, after the dog from the show. This also usually accompanies any dog violence that may show up.
  • Anytime he pokes fun at fat Americans or the Fat Bastard trope, his go-to meme is Nikocado Avocado.
  • Whenever somebody gets smashed into by an ambulance, an audio-clip of "Bites Za Dusto!" plays, in reference to Kira's Death by Ambulance.
  • Anytime Max0r goes Stylistic Suck with corny puns and deliberately lame jokes, or deals with dull scenarios, he follows up by quoting from the opening and/or ad bumpers for The Big Bang Theory.
  • He regularly throws in (heavily censored) Rule 34 fanart, usually covered by Troll faces.
  • Whenever he sees a particularly blatant example of Hyperspace Arsenal or Hammerspace, he'll state "Go Go Gadget (previously somehow hidden weapon)".
  • Whenever a situation escalates further than the last escalation, he'll say some variant of "Hey guys, Max0r here, and welcome back to the Lets-Play" to represent how the "ride" isn't slowing down anytime soon, usually shortened to "Hey guys, Max0r here."
  • After a reaction channel called "Chicago Reacts" started doing reactions to Max0r's content and he learned about it, he began inserting various "Chicago is a dangerous and devastated wasteland" jokes in most of his summaries just for them, as explained through a comment by him on their Project Wingman reaction.
  • He regularly adds in paintings of the Habsburgs in reference to Gonks, incompetent rulers, and/or how a situation is getting circular.
  • Quite often when he talks about anime, children, and especially anime children, it's common for him to imply the game's fans or in-game characters are pedophiles, including a Friend to All Children like Raiden being Mistaken for Pedophile, people that Would Hurt a Child like Sundowner and the Desperado scientist (in the reviews changed into being Jeffrey Epstein) being changed to also abuse them sexually, and anybody that plays games like Persona, Genshin Impact, and Azur Lane that contain underage anime girls as playable characters being considered one slip-up from landing in either prison or Hell (and yes, that implicitly, sometimes explicitly, also includes himself).
  • Various jokes are made about Joe Biden being a Scatterbrained Senior who's so old that Max0r's surprised he hasn't keeled over from a heart attack yet, with a secondary gag that Biden is Powered by a Forsaken Child to maintain his life.
  • Dramatic boss fights tend to have a running gag of him using music from gacha game boss soundtracks, primarily Punishing: Gray Raven, Blue Archive, or Arknights. He once made a comment explaining that this is because gacha game soundtracks are frequently devoid of copyright, so he's free to use them in his videos without risk of demonetization.
  • Starting with Elden Ring, he adds in different variations of the YOU DIED meme when he gets killed (SPLEEN EXPLODED, for example). He adds in different versions GREAT BOSS FELLED as well (DEMIGOD SLAIN for example).
  • He posts in random clips and pictures of Ben Shapiro.
  • Whenever he runs into a Bullet Hell scenario, he refers to it as going through "Touhou's Bizarre Adventure".
  • He randomly claims something is connected to Five Nights at Freddy's in various videos, usually with a synonym like "Five Evenings and Frederick's" and a clip of Markiplier being jump-scared in the background. If there's anything involving the number 87, then he uses Mark's "Bite of '87" clip.
  • He usually adds in some form of reference to DiGiorno's Pizza involving their tagline ("It's not delivery, it's DiGiorno.").
  • Whenever one of his voice actors has (intentional) laughter in their dialogue, it'll usually be subtitled as some variation of "[The Essence of Comedy]".
  • Expect references to Margaret Thatcher or Ronald Reagan to show up, particularly if killing something or Hell is involved.
  • Max0r will throw in Alex Jones' "I'm a Pioneer" rant in his videos.
  • If a character gets launched into space, or at least past the game's skybox, Max0r plays the Moon Stage theme from DuckTales.
  • Whenever he works Neon Genesis Evangelion into his jokes, he always uses a clip of Asuka Langley Soryu's battle against the MP-EVA units.
  • He'll randomly insert a dancing crab from Noisestorm's "Crab Rave" video.
  • Games that involve a silent brute are Suddenly Voiced (Cavaliere Angelo, Bitores Mendez) and go into Villainous Breakdown.
  • He'll frequently insert a clip of a speeding car flying over a hedge and landing on a group of children, taken from this Irish anti-speeding PSA.
  • If there's a section that involves gatekeeping, he uses the "LET ME IN!" meme from The Eric Andre Show.
  • Whenever Max0r says the only two people he can trusts are Smith & Wesson, he uses a clip from the Kitchen Gun skit.
  • Max0r expressing horror or shock at the British, taking the piss out of them like saying their existence is a crime he has to correct. His Bloodborne review in particular has him regularly mock them, calling Elizabeth II a "parasitic queen" that he intends to make feel the wrath of the "proletariat" after he kills Prince Philip, all while Russian music plays over a flag of the USSR. Later, when telling the viewer to imagine Hell, it's represented by the British Isles with the Union Jack overlaid it.
  • He regularly plays (I Got Spurs That) Jingle Jangle Jangle in his videos as Soundtrack Dissonance (the invasion of Insomnia in FF15, and being greeted to Limgrave in Elden Ring).
  • He'll usually show off the timetable of his videos to show how much work goes into cramming in as many effects and memes as possible.
  • He usually adds in clips of the Hummer Guy from the Family Guy episode, "Girl, Internetted."

Individual Games (Ordered by Post Date)
  • Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain:
    • Big Boss is constantly denoted with similar alliterative names, like the Colossal CEO, the Massive Master, and the Huge Honcho.
    • Skull Face is initially called Jim Carrey's The Mask, before eventually switching to him just being Jim Carrey.
    • The "Man on Fire" is exclusively referred to as the Human Torch.
    • Max0r repeatedly refers to his base as an "anime prison" built for the purpose of indoctrinating impressionable young men into becoming horny weebs easily swayed by women with big boobs (like Quiet), which eventually culminates in the reveal by Flashback-Montage Realization that Skull Face in this video wants to eradicate all Japanese-speakers, so he can destroy both anime and everybody "brainwashed" by Big Boss.
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater:
    • Ocelot repeatedly asks Snake nonsensical questions about "Capitalist" America, like if they share a "village toothbrush" and if hordes of pigs teleport in from nowhere to eat children.
    • Colonel Volgin is always called Emperor Palpatine due to being an old and very evil Psycho Electro.
    • It's frequently brought up that most of the bosses have the minds of either infants or gibbons, because the A.I. for them lacks player-tracking code, meaning they basically lack comprehension of object permanence and forget Snake was just there when he exits their POV.
  • Devil May Cry V:
    • He frequently notes how the team's van can seemingly teleport wherever it wants to go.
    • V's bird companion Griffon is a Game-Breaking Bug that constantly glitches and distorts the world around it because it runs on Windows Vista.
    • Multiple characters use the term "fucking dick" to describe someone else.
    • He frequently calls V "Kylo Ren" alongside stating he looks like a woman.
    • Anytime Nico speaks, she gets one syllable out before it cuts to the next scene.
  • Genshin Impact Reviews:
    • Waifu Simulator: Since the game is made in China, Max0r with his Refuge in Audacity nature makes repeated references to the Tiananmen Square Massacre, alongside the Chinese government's extreme efforts to erase knowledge of it.
    • A Playable Anime:
      • The game is full of so many hot men and women that Max0r repeatedly claims through the video that one of the biggest challenges in playing the game is questioning your sexuality.
      • The sheer scale of the game naturally results in various glitches, with Max0r repeatedly using movement glitches for either silliness or inter-nation travel, such as one that launches you into space higher than the moon, one that lets you go Walk, Don't Swim, and one that lets you walk on thin air.
      • Kaeya is often presented by memes in the background to be Muslim, despite the fact that he comes from Khaenri'ah, a country with no gods.
      • Meanwhile, Eula is presented as racist.
      • During the Inazuma section, he uses the Bangladesh flag since it's similar to the Japanese flag.
  • Project Wingman:
    • He repeatedly compares Crimson 1 to King Crimson.
    • Just about every mention of the Republic of Cascadia is accompanied by stock photos of white people in polo shirts.

  • Yakuza 0
    • He adds in clips of Kiryu and Majima dancing at the disco.
  • Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance:
    • In addition to N'Mani always being treated like he's Barack Obama, Max0r also engages in Malicious Misnaming every time he comes up, including "Barfsack O'Crumbo", "Bumcrack Osama", and "Bumsack O'Chungus".
    • The first three automated codec calls replace the dialogue with a pic and audio-clips from LowTierGod insulting Raiden.
    • Raiden frequently has his name mixed together with Joe Biden's due to the inherent pun potential.
  • Monster Hunter: World
    • Adding in the whistling from Warframe's "We All Lift Together."
  • Elden Ring:
    • Godrick the Grafted is treated like he's Garfield, even having killed a dragon named Odie because it was a Monday. The boss fight with Elden John is because he was late with the lasagna.
    • Rykard is always referred to as Satan (both by Max0r himself and In-Universe by the inhabitants) and his domain as Hell.
    • The first two parts make sure to mention that Malenia is the Blade of Miquella, in case you had forgotten.
    • Part 3 has Elden John do the flossing dance randomly, even when it gets him killed…again.
  • Ultrakill:
    • V1 being constantly referred to as a camera, specifically either a Go-Pro or a Nikkon, because of its very camera lens resembling mono eye.
    • Several points in Act 1 have a "Thanos Beatboxing" text quote due to how fast and hard the game itself goes.
    • The Cerberus enemies all speak by having Jimothy Ross quote the "YOU HAVE UNO!" meme.
    • "I think my copy of [X] is broken."
    • "Shinji, Crank That Soulja Boy" whenever a large door takes its sweet time opening up.

      • He throws in random MrBeast memes.
      • He treats the Pyramid in Greed like it's the Bass Pro Shops Pyramid.
      • He reminds viewers to walk their dog everyday.
      • The sheer insanity of the intense movement and vibrating, explosive deaths has Max0r periodically insert a clip of Hitori Gotou violently glitching out while screaming, now that it exists for use.
  • Resident Evil 4:
    • There are frequent references to Ultrakill's Fishing Minigame secret level, "I Only Say Morning."
    • Leon frequently forgets to take Ashley with him as he moves on, looking back to see Ashley in the midst of a monster horde.
    • Leon keeps inexplicably losing his shirt between cuts in order to crank up the homoeroticism of a given scene.
