ITT: We're Animals in a Post-Apocalyptic Town is a Play-by-Post Game on the TV Tropes Forums. It was started by Bluethorn on July 28, 2019 and takes place in a World of Funny Animals.

The premise of the roleplay is that its world was suddenly overtaken by monsters—whose source is unknown to this day—many years before the events of the story. Since these monsters are far too dangerous for most people (or rather, animals) to handle, most places were rendered off-limits to the general populace, who now live in secluded towns and settlements without much contact with the outside world. Society is able to maintain itself by relying on those who are strong enough to fight the monsters for jobs that require venturing outside the towns, like hunting and mining.

So far, only one town has appeared in the thread. The main characters are a group of adventurers who carry out several jobs both inside and outside town. Eventually, villains other than the monsters make their appearance, and more about the world's backstory begins to be revealed.

The thread can be found here.

We're Animals in a Post-Apocalyptic Town contains examples of:

  • After the End: Most of the world became infested with monsters many generations before the main characters were born, making it difficult for most people to venture outside the town walls and largely isolating the town from the rest of the world.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: The first monster faced by the heroes, in the forest ruins, is a giant stag beetle.
  • Cave Behind the Falls: Played straight and lampshaded during the Crystal Shores arc. When the group finds a waterfall in the jungle, Jack wonders if they might find a cave behind it, pointing out that it happens all the time in stories. Sure enough, there turns out to be a cave behind the waterfall, where the group encounters a sleeping giant salamander and a path to the cliffs above.
  • Cosy Catastrophe: Largely inspired by the use of this trope in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The world is overrun with monsters, but some towns have managed to survive by building walls to keep them out and relying on the few citizens who are capable of handling the monsters to bring in resources from outside. Inside the town walls, life goes on as normal and people still work, go to school, have birthday parties and the like. Some businesses are even still able to run outside the towns, like inns for travelers or Gunther's boat shop.
  • Furry Confusion: Lampshaded when Jack almost steps on a bear trap set by Gunther. Jack's player briefly goes out of character and wonders if, since this is a World of Funny Animals, bear traps would actually be called "monster traps."
"Jack looks down and sees that he almost stepped in a bear trap. (Maybe they would be called monster traps in this universe?)"
  • World of Funny Animals: All characters are fully anthropomorphic animals, with some of the ones debuting on the first page including an armadillo, a fox, a hyena, and a rabbit. This even includes animals that are extinct or don't exist in the real world (Wanda being a purple dinosaur, for example). They all walk on two legs, are able to speak, live in humanlike houses and have regular jobs and some forms of technology and machinery, but they may still display traits characteristic of their species, such as Krista speaking in Sssssnaketalk.
