Roleplay / The Good The Bad And The Spandex II

Go To

The Good, The Bad and The Spandex II is the sequel/reboot to a superhero RP started by Sijo (previously run by kagescorpionakki and now being run by JumpingFruit). Like in the previous RP, you can play as a superhero, a supervillain or an anti-hero/villain, but they have to be original (in other words, no Batman or Superman). The game is set in Easton, a city located in the East Coast of the USA. The rules remain almost the same from the last game, though there have been some changes.

Sadly, this RP has ended due to a loss of participation. There is, however, a Reboot! You can sign up for it right here. Then a Retroboot started to resume the original canon of both the Spandex I and Spandex II RPs in order to provide a conclusion to the storylines within and then continue on. The signups are right over here.

Tropes in the RP:

  • Asian Fox Spirit: Eiju is a Kyūbi no Kitsune, and is heavily based on the actual mythology. The only major difference is that kitsune in the folklore are normal foxes that become magical with age, and Eiju is a spirit of the more widely-known traditions.
  • Big Damn Heroes:
  • Call-Back: Following the Retroboot, there are a lot of callbacks to Spandex's history:
    • An explanation and demonstration of why the Kaydenites changed so much over the course of Spandex I going into II. It turns out the original Rine and Kyxe were Nohmans rather than Rellans, and following the incidents at the close of Spandex I, the Nohman Kayden went back to its original universe, letting Rellan Kayden return. This causes a problem for Ro'lan Anok, the superhero Ultra Lad.
    • Roland's first fight is against a robotic version of the disappeared hero Eldritch. The robot's last words are the most infamous thing associated with Eldritch.
    • Mention is made of the Parasite Invasion and its conclusion, which was mostly concentrated on the city of Easton and surrounding areas.
    • Mention is made of the Foundation for the Future and its technology.
    • In a way, the Retroboot starts similarly to old Spandex installments—they started with powered armor Neo-Nazis, and the Retroboot begins with a confrontation in the cards with Rick Cannelle and his fascistic team the Americorps.
  • Crapsack World: Or city at least—Obsidian City, 20 miles out from Easton, is dominated by Aquavect, which poisons the water supply going to minority and poor areas of the city. It's corrupt from the top down, and currently has brought in a group of "heroes" sponsored by President Sutler, the equivalent of President Trump, to "restore order," and already had a bunch of far right wing loonies running around as private security.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The first encounter with the Americorps looked like it'd be bad first, with the NJI outnumbered...and then Trickster launched their attack including stealth mist, and the new characters attacked. Dr. Elite got his arm broken, The Onrush got choked out, beaten up and had his sword stolen, American Avenger, their Superman knockoff, was a bloody mess, Dead-Ahead could barely do anything, Shaper was beaten at his own game, Gun Girl was beaten by Hans and Kloe, and Hammer Lass was held down by Makquer'el. Not a promising first outing for the President's "best people".
  • Darker and Edgier: After Sijo left, the rule forbidding killing and torture was gone—and the results were immediately apparent.
  • Emotional Powers:
  • Evil Counterpart: The Owl is The Venom Dog if he embraced his dark side.
  • Fantasy Kitchen Sink: As is the standard of the superhero genre, one can see all sorts of outlandish and bizarre things in this game. Magic, aliens, super-tech, werewolves, insect-people...the list goes on and on.
  • Fascist, but Inefficient: The Americorps in a nutshell. They're fascist goons, but they're also basically just tv show, radio and social media personalities, not trained fighters. As a result, their first fight was a disaster.
  • Fun with Acronyms: TALOS—Tactical Abnormalities Logistics Organization & Services.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: War Dragon threw Amethyst at The Venom Dog during the fight in Lotus Labs.
  • Left Hanging: Ironically for something that was meant to wrap up the arcs of Spandex II, the Retroboot only got far enough to introduce yet more plot threads before petering to a stop, with nothing resolved.
  • Lighter and Softer: Unlike in the previous game, killing and torture is strictly prohibited here.
  • Morality Kitchen Sink: Since players can be of any alignment, this was inevitable.
  • Multiversal Conqueror:
    • Foundation for the Future are a squad of supervillains sent by Absolute Authority to conquer other universes and bend them under their rule.
    • The Anti-Creator combines this with Omnicidal Maniac, wanting to conquer and destroy other universes so as to combine them into the Strange Energy Universe he rules, which will make everyone become his slaves.
  • Our Werewolves Are Different: Crescent became a werewolf by fusing with a wolf spirit from a broken talisman. He can transform into either a full humanoid wolf or a very hairy human, which is an intermediate stage.
  • President Evil: President Sutler, a Trumplica who has started "certifying" alleged hero teams to "restore order" throughout the United States. Sutler works with Dr. Neuron and the Order of Zugzwang itself, the former being a full on World War II era Nazi Doctor. The latter being the manipulative villains who have been several arcs Greater Scope Villains.
  • Straw Character: The Americorps, and painfully so. They essentially exist solely as mockeries of right-wing politics, and have no personality beyond that.
  • Those Wacky Nazis: Blitzkriegs are skinhead Neo-Nazis with mechanical armors from an unknown benefactor. Based on recent information, this Unknown Benefactor could well be Dr. Neuron.
