Given that it became the first movie to gross $1 billion at the box-office, and that it remained the highest-grossing movie in the world for twelve years until it was beaten by James Cameron's subsequent non-documentary movie Avatar, Titanic has, of course, inspired a lot of references since it was first released in 1997.

  • The Suite Life on Deck: Several scenes in "The Kidney of the Sea" spoof this movie.
  • Supernatural: The episode "My Heart Will Go On" features the angel Balthazar changing history to prevent the sinking of the Titanic, which he claims is because he hated the movie; according to him, in the new timeline where the Titanic never sank, Celine Dion is now just a lounge singer somewhere in Quebec. After history is restored, protagonist Dean Winchester observes that the film "didn't suck that much" (although he attributes this to "Winslet's rack").

I'm gonna stand on the edge of the ring, they're gonna hold me high… except I'm not gonna die in the end, because Kate Winslet is not gonna not let me up on… seriously, there was a door floatin', that door was big enough for two people, seriously.
