• Benny & Joon: "(I'm Gonna Be) 500 Miles" plays during the opening and closing credits.^note The movie ended up giving the song a Colbert Bump, as while it had been popular in Europe when it was first released in 1988 - it reached #11 on the UK singles chart - it became popular worldwide after its use in the movie.
• The Commitments: At the wedding Outspan and Derek are playing at - where Imelda is (it's her sister who's getting married) - during a break, "Letter from America" starts playing, and a drunken Deco sings along.

• In If I Fall, If I Die, Will's mom sometimes sings "500 Miles" when she's in a good mood.
• In The Mermaid's Daughter, Kathleen and Harry eat at a pub in Ireland, where the band opens with The Proclaimers. Kathleen says, "See, tourist music!"

• Family Guy: In "You May Now Kiss the... Uh... Guy Who Receives", Stewie says that Jasper will fit in with the family like Peter with The Proclaimers, triggering a Cutaway Gag of Peter doing backup for "(I'm Gonna Be) 500 Miles" and attacking Craig and Charlie for singing over him.
