Anime

  • A bonus episode of Bikini Warriors has the titular Warriors receive “special bikinis” from a god that work just like the “fabric” in the story, with only fools being unable to see them. Naturally, this results in them waking around naked, and being an Ecchi show, it gets exploited for all the fanservice it's worth. A little boy helpfully tells Hunter, Valkyrie, and Cleric that they are naked. Dark Elf and Paladin unfortunately find out when some perverts have them Mistaken for Prostitute, and Fighter and Mage find out when some guards attempt to arrest them for indecent exposure.
  • Date A Live: Isaac Westcott traps the heroes in the roles of several fairy tales and stories. They manage to find each other and regroup. The last one they find is Origami Tobiichi playing the role of the Emperor, naked except a cape. She is so lost in her role that she doesn't notice she is naked until the others point it out. She claims the clothes could only be seen by people with love in their hearts, and because of her love for Shido, she deluded herself into thinking she could see it.
  • Snow White with the Red Hair: An alternate fairy tale chapter cover shows Raji as the Emperor, being too dumb to fool into trying on the clothes with his awareness that he's considered stupid only helping to keep him from being interested.

Comic Strips

  • A Rugrats comic strip has Tommy tell Chuckie about the time Stu read him the story of The Emperor's New Diapies. Chuckie asks Tommy if it's the story where the king runs around "nakie", to which Tommy tells him it is. Both Tommy and Chuckie agree that it's their kind of king.

Film -- Animated

Literature

Live-Action TV

  • Doctor Who: In the First Doctor story "The Romans", the Doctor (posing as a famous lyre-player) gives a recital during a banquet held by the Emperor Nero, in which he claims that the music he is playing is so soft that only those with very keen hearing will be able to hear it. He isn't actually playing at all, but like the characters in the original story no-one will admit that they can't hear anything. (There's no random child to point this out here.) The Doctor even claims that he was the one who gave Hans Christian Andersen the idea for the story.

Puppet Shows

  • The fifth story in Muppet Classic Theater is a retelling of the story, with Fozzie in the role of the Emperor.

Tabletop Games

Video Games

  • For Final Fantasy XIV players whose glamour design relies on the complete absence of a particular gear slot, vendors in Vesper Bay and Mor Dhona sell "The Emperor's New" gear, which is completely invisible.
  • In the New Game Plus of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, rather than being gifted the "Hero's Clothes" at the beginning of the game (which is Link's iconic green tunic), Link is instead given the "Hero's NEW Clothes", which are, naturally, invisible. Link decides to wear them over his starting outfit, thus giving him a new look for the repeat playthrough. Amusingly, it isn't a con; The Hero's New Clothes actually ARE invisible, and only wise, honest characters can see them. You'll find a few characters that recognize Link wearing some new duds, such as the Great Deku Tree.

Western Animation

  • In the Grand Finale of Daria, the title character makes a speech summarizing her philosophy on life.
"Remember, when the emperor looks naked, the emperor is naked. The truth and the lie aren't 'sort of' the same thing."
