  • CODA (2021): Ruby learns to sing "Both Sides Now" to audition to Berklee Music School near the end.
  • The Kids Are All Right: Though Nic and Paul don't get along for most of the movie, they do briefly bond over the fact they're both fans of Joni Mitchell (Nic named her daughter after Mitchell) during dinner one night, and they both sing "All I Want" together.
  • In Love Actually, Karen gets a Joni Mitchell album from Harry for Christmas, having expected him to give her the gold necklace she had previously found in his room. It turns out that he'd given it to someone else. The 2000 version of "Both Sides Now" plays in the subsequent scene.

  • In I Think I Love You, Petra hears Joni Mitchell in her head, singing about a love that's gone, as she thinks about her ex-husband.
  • Troubled Blood, book 5 of the Cormoran Strike series, is mainly about the attempts to solve the disappearance of a woman in 1974. It's mentioned several times that Mitchell's Court and Spark was the victim's favourite album, and the female lead spends several scenes listening to it. JK Rowling herself became a fan of Mitchell's after listening to the album in order to write about it.
  • In Every Shiny Thing, Anne plays Joni Mitchell on the radio while she makes jewelry with Audrey.

Live-Action TV

  • The singer gets referenced a few times on This Is Us. In one episode, Kevin brings Rebecca onto the grounds of Mitchell's old house, Rebecca having talked about not having been able to find it with Jack years before.
  • The finale of season 5 of House is titled "Both Sides Now".

  • Prince makes a reference to "Help Me" in "The Ballad of Dorothy Parker" from Sign o' the Times:
    "Oh, my favorite song", she said
    And it was Joni singing "Help me, I think I'm falling"...
