Live-Action Films

  • The Player: a couple of the characters talk about the movie, and Lyle Lovett's character does the "one of us" chant.
  • The Dreamers: After their run through the Louvre and beating the time from the scene in Bande à part, Isabel and Theo start doing the "one of us" chant, with a clip of the scene from the film playing over briefly, before cutting back to the twins and Matthew heading back to the apartment.

Live-Action Television

  • The Big Bang Theory: In "The Panty Piñata Polarization", Sheldon warns Penny that since she's part of the guys' social group now, he won't give her any leniency on her behavior.
    Leonard: Congratulations, you're officially one of us.
    Howard: [chanting] One of us! One of us!
  • The Sopranos: Caitlin, a college roommate of Meadow, goes to see the film in the episode "University" and is apparently, well, 'freaked' out by it.

Music

  • The Ramones' "Pinhead" was based on the film, with the chant "Gabba Gabba Hey" being a variation on "Gooble gooble! Gooble gobble!"
  • Nicole Dollanganger's "Cries of the Elephant Man Bones" directly quotes the "gooble gobble" chant.

Professional Wrestling

  • WWE's The Oddities were inspired by the movie. As part of their debut on the May 25, 1998 WWE Raw, the manager The Jackyl lampshaded the film's message, though not by name, telling commentator Michael Cole, "These people are normal compared to people like you and Jim Ross." Their entrance video featured clips from the movie.

Theatre

  • Hedwig and the Angry Inch: The song "Freaks" which appears in the film version claims "we are freaks," proudly describing aspects of gender non-conformity and praising "the bearded lady of Avenue A." The middle of the song is a chant "One of us, one of us."

Western Animation

  • Looney Tunes: In "Daffy Duck in Hollywood", a clip of a fat woman from the movie appears in Daffy's film. The clip is preceded by a card saying she's won a Beauty contest with Sara Berner providing her line of "I'm happy all over, thank you."
  • The Simpsons: The Treehouse of Horror segment "Freaks, No Geeks" is a parody of the movie, with Homer taking Hercules' role and trying to use Marge to kill Moe and steal his emerald ring.
  • South Park: In "Butters' Very Own Episode", Stephen and Linda believe that they've killed Butters and lie to the press about about their son's disappearance. As a result, a group of alleged murderers who lied about their respective crimes, including O. J. Simpson, Gary Condit and John & Patsy Ramseynote  initiate them into their gang and chant "One of us! One of us! Gooble-gobble! Gooble-gobble!"
