Characters who have special monikers in Fan Works.

Crossovers
  • In the Italian remake of the Battle Fantasia Project Mami Tomoe is known and feared among other Puellae Magi as "Mami the Invincible" due the nasty beatdown she gave to five colleagues who invaded her territory and pressed her Berserk Button (the fact she regularly trounces invaders and makes 'friendly visits' to the Sole Survivor of the first quintet helps her fame).
  • Boldores And Boomsticks (Pokémon & RWBY): Grendel is also called "the Grimm General".
  • The Butcher Bird: Most of the Nightmare Pirates have aliases of their own, due to their careers in piracy. In addition to the eponymous Butcher Bird, Yoshimura Kaneki, Vinci is known as "Alley Doc", Lauren is called "Vodun", Herman has the nickname Berserker Hound, Six is called "Songbird", Gin's known as the Revenant, C acquires the title of Jabberwock, and Jack is known as "Thundering Hammer". This isn't counting the long list of side characters and canon characters from One Piece proper.
  • Charles Manson Vs The Teletubbies: Each of the Teletubbies has their own title that goes in tandem with their powers.
“The purple Teletubby, the destroyer of worlds, Tinky-Winky” exclaimed Tinky-Winky as a purple explosion went off behind him.
“The green Teletubby, the conqueror of souls, Dipsy” shouted Dipsy as a green explosion went off behind him.
“The yellow Teletubby, the eradicator of hope, Laa-laa” yelled Laa-laa as a yellow explosion went off behind her.
“The red Teletubby, the killer of dimensions, Po” screamed Po as a red explosion went off behind him.
  • Child of the Storm, being a world of emerging superheroes, has a few.
    • Bucky Barnes a.k.a. the Winter Soldier is the most notable example, with a whole list of other nicknames: The Ice Warrior, the Sleeping Death, the Shield Breaker, Europe's Terror. He earned them.
    • Similarly, Natasha Romanova a.k.a. the Black Widow. It used to be a rank, but she was accorded it as a title. In the sequel, Yelena Belova claims it for herself, and is firmly put in her place.
    • Tony is referred to in Asgard as 'Lord Stark' something which, as fan of Game of Thrones and an egomaniac, he absolutely revels in. This is done on the grounds that he's richer and more powerful than most of the Lords, Princes, Kings, and even Emperors, in Earth's history, and he's earned such honour in battle.
      • He's also, naturally, known as Iron Man.
    • Sirius is referred to, briefly, as 'the Marauder', with the context stating that he earned it on the battlefield as well as by being part of the Marauders. It's later noted that he doesn't like it very much.
    • Thor is known as 'The Thunderer' and the 'Lord of Storms'.
    • Wanda Maximoff's nom de guerre, the Scarlet Witch, is known and respected.
    • Erik Magnus Lensherr a.k.a. Magneto, whose mere name makes centuries old badasses go white, and is described as one of the greatest terrors the Earth has seen since 'the Frost Giant Wars'. He's reformed now (... mostly), but even still.
    • The Banshee earned his name the hard way.
    • In a more meta sense, Archangel a.k.a. Warren Worthington III, considering the name's history in comics canon.
      • And chapter 70 demonstrates that he more than lives up to it. Which, considering the canon origins of the name, may not be a very good thing...
    • Doctor Strange has accrued many of these, including 'the Sorcerer Supreme', 'the Lord of Time', 'the Evergreen Man, and 'the Scary Bugger Supreme'.
    • Aside from the canonical 'Boy-Who-Lived', there is also 'the Phoenix' and the Dark Phoenix, are usually appended to Harry. Both make people quail, and for excellent reason. The latter is considered particularly ominous, considering the other person who's used it. He later gets the below mentioned Krasnyy Syn a.k.a. 'the Red Son' as another one, which also scares the hell out people.
    • And then, of course, there is Nathaniel Essex, known variously as the Pale Man, Nosferatu, and simply... Sinister.
    • As of Ghosts of the Past, the Red Room also have the Krasnyy Syn, 'the Red Son', the next generation Winter Soldier: he's a brainwashed Harry.
      • They also have 'the Beast', a vicious and powerful mutant used to test (and often punish) their prisoners. He's also known as the Blob and more surprisingly, Dudley Dursley. He's dangerous, but not half as much as he thinks he is.
    • From Ghosts of the Past, Surtur/Surtr (both spellings are used) of Muspelheim is this, with his name meaning 'the Dark One'. It was given to him by the Alliance of Realms, for the fact "darkness was what he brought, with only remembrances of starlight and echoes of screams left in his wake." It reached the point that his original name has long since been forgotten. However, he does have another one, though it's more of a title: the Dark Phoenix.
  • A Discordant Note (Harry Potter & A Song of Ice and Fire): Harry Potter/Black comes to be known as the Crowfather due to his affinity for crows and ravens as well as his status as unofficial rule of the Lands Beyond the Wall.
  • Fallout: Equestria (My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic & Fallout) has a few cases of this.
    • The protagonist of the original fanfic, Littlepip, earns a variation on the first Fallout protagonist's title, "The Stable Dweller". To the survivors of Arbu, however, she is known as "Hellmare".
    • Recursive Fanfiction Project Horizons gives its protagonist, Blackjack, her old job title from her stable this status, "The Security Mare", or sometimes just "Security". Sometimes she even exploits it.
    • Fallout Equestria: Pink Eyes gives its protagonist Puppysmiles 'The Pink Ghost' or 'The Ghost of 52' from her eyes, fur, and the pink mist she emits when shot. '52' refers to her domain, the massive highway known as the Big 52.
  • Fantasy of Utter Ridiculousness (Megas XLR & Touhou Project): Due to all the damage it caused during its first sojourn through Gensokyo, Megas has become known as "The Destructive Sentinel" to most of its inhabitants by the time of the Extra Stage. Only those who've met Coop personally, such as Alice or Patchouli, refer to the mech by its real name.
  • Fate of the Clans: These names were used more than once.
    • Child of Light and Culann's Hound for Cú Chulainn.
    • Treacherous Knight for Mordred.
    • King of Conquerors for Iskandar.
    • Lesser Grail for Anna.
    • Black Dog for Kuroh.
    • Silver King for Adolf.
    • Gold King for Daikaku.
    • Red King for Mikoto and previously Genji.
    • Blue King for Reisi and previously Jin.
    • Green King for Nagare.
    • Grey King for Tenkei.
    • Colorless King for Ichigen.
  • Fate Revelation Online: Shirou is initially called [The Sixth Ranger] as an insult because he swoops in to help people and then runs off, like an overpowered kill-stealing jackass from an anime. As the game wears on and players begin to understand that he's genuinely helping, it becomes a real honorific. And then the [Titled Player] system is implemented, exempting certain overpowered players from the game balance. Shirou's official name is changed to [The Sixth Ranger], and Illya's becomes [The White Witch].
  • God Slaying Blade Works: Guinevere eventually names Shirou "King of Steel" (she wanted to call him "King of Swords", however Salvatore Doni already has that title). Some also call him "King Shrouded in Mystery" because of his unknown past, "All Wealthy" for his Rule of the Underworld making him very rich, "Host of the Divine" for taking in Guinevere, Tiamat, and Lancelot, and "Impossible Mage" for his amazing abilities. His critics call him "Heartless King" for killing Venus the Goddess of Love, and "Sir Shirou the Weak" and "Traitor King" for his refusal to kill Tiamat and Lancelot and instead offering them shelter.
  • The Good Hunter:
    • Ancalagon's title, the Black Dragon, is referred to more often than her actual name or her other titles by the narrations of different P.O.V. characters. Justified that she is a black dragon.
    • While Cyril has acquired many a title throughout his time in the MGE 'verse, his most well-known is none other than "Moon-Scented Hunter".
  • Due to Hild's interest/affection for Ranma in Hell Is a Martial Artist, the inhabitants of hell refer to him as "Daimakaichoko" (aka Child of the Daimakaicho/Satan).
  • The Hill of Swords (The Familiar of Zero & Fate/stay night): Shirou has been nicknamed "The King of Swords", much to his annoyance. In the Distant Epilogue, we find out that Louise has been named "the Duchess of Emptiness."
  • Infinity Train: Blossoming Trail: Chloe names herself "Chloe of the Vermillion" based off of her introduction to Atticus (as she said she was from Vermillion City). Her Alternate Self in Infinity Train: Boiling Point also goes by this title. Amelia is given the nickname of "Amelia the Artificer.
    • The prequel, Infinity Train: Knight of the Orange Lily, has Gladion be nicknamed "Knight of the Orange Lily", due to his symbol being orange liliesnote  and how he wishes to become a knight. It's mixed with Atrocious Alias since Gladion does not want to be associated with the flowers that translate to "F you", but rolls with it later on.
  • Kyon: Big Damn Hero (Haruhi Suzumiya & TV Tropes; author Died During Production): Kyon is called "Kowa-Keigo"note
  • The Night Unfurls (Bloodborne & Kuroinu: Kedakaki Seijo wa Hakudaku ni Somaru):
    • Kyril Sutherland is best known as (Sir) Kyril the Bloody due to his brutal actions in the battlefield, but different people have referred to him by a number of recognisable nicknames. "Hunter" is what he's known as and the one he preferred at the beginning, though it becomes less prevalent due to his increasing titles. "The Saint of Killers" is a name given by people deep in the red light district of Ken, for he is a man so terrifying that even the most cold blooded murderer on the streets stayed home if he was around. One Black Dog prisoner calls him "The Reaper", a new one Kyril hasn't heard of. He later hears talk about him being "the Left Hand of the Goddess" as he continues to bring results for the Goddess via brutal methods.
    • Due to her status as God Empress, Celestine Lucross is better known as "The Goddess Reborn/Re-incarnate", or simply "The Goddess".
    • Maia has the moniker "Queen of Mercenaries" due to being the technical ruler of Ansur, a Wretched Hive where the children born there are said to be destined to become mercenaries when they grow up.
    • The remastered version introduces a rat-looking entity named The Rat. It is not confirmed whether it is the forest creature's real name. Kyril even assumes it is a made-up name. Celestine, on the other hand, refers to the Rat as "Lord of Plagues", "King-Spawn of All Vermin", "He Who Feasts On Ambition", "Eater of Men", and "Foul Taskmaster".
  • Oni Ga Shiku Series:
    • As per canon, several titles apply such as Kazuma Kiryu being called the "Dragon of Dojima" or Goro Majima being called the "Mad Dog of Shimano".
    • The title of the first fic in the series is Izuku Midoriya, Mad Dog of Shizuoka. Izuku earns that title In-Universe when a video of him going absolutely nuts at Tokugawa Castle fighting the Yamikumo Clan goes viral. Downplayed in that the person who filmed the video on their phone was too far away for Izuku to be recognized from it so people never realize that Izuku is the person on the video; but even five years later the event is still remembered to the point that the official castle park administration errects a statue of a snarling dog guarding the castle gates in his honor.
    • Izuku's grandfather Musashi Midoriya was known as "Omi's God of War" for having a very high kill count. The man is very bitter about his title because his first kill was his own father.
  • Percy Jackson: Spirits: Amarok has a few of these titles, like the Hungerer and the Devourer, earned from centuries spent terrorizing the Water Tribes.
  • Reapers Among Fairies: Isshin Kurosaki was called "Burning Moon" because of his fire powers and has been compared to a solar eclipse. Ichigo is called "Slaying Moon" because he's been compared to a new moon. Kazui is called "Shining Moon" because he's been compared to a full moon. Karin is called "Drowning Moon" because she has water powers and has been compared to the moon controlling the tides.
  • The renegade hero!!!....Invader Zim?: Zim is known by most of the universe as the "Hero of Doomsday" for preventing the success of Operation Impending Doom.
  • SAPR (My Little Pony & RWBY): Several examples are found, possibly due to the author's admitted love of epic fantasy.
    • Pyrrha is called both "The Invincible Girl" and "The Uncrowned Princess."
    • In chapter 182, "Dragonslayer," Penny Polendina is given the titular epithet after dealing the killing blow against the Wyvern that has been reeking havoc for the past four chapters.
  • Scoob and Shag: Bugs Bunny is known as "the Noise" after the white noise his Ballyhoo power emits.
  • Slightly Damned: Wind of Redemption and Rebirth: The Rebirths often have this, with titles ranging from Names to Run Away from Really Fast, to Affectionate Nickname
  • The Weaver Option (Warhammer & Worm):
    • The few Orks who survive clashes with Taylor spread the name "Swarm Bringa" to their new warbands. The name is said less with fear than anticipation of a good fight.
    • During the Mark of Commorragh Taylor is named Maelsha’eil Dannan by the Dark Eldar. The Imperium translates this as "Angel of Death", where the full translation would be "The Burning Angel Governing the Cycle of Entropy".
    • "The Queen of Blades" was the title taken be Aeneria Eldanesh during the War in Heaven and it remains a title that she alone may hold to this day.
  • The Wizard in the Shadows (Harry Potter & The Lord of the Rings):
    • Harry has several, all guaranteed to make any servant of the dark crap themselves: the Black Wizard / the Moristar, the Wizard in the Shadows, the Master of Death.
    • Many of the cast pick these up: Eirian becomes known as 'The Doom Singer' and Emrys as 'The Avenger'.
  • A Young Girl's Game of Thrones (The Saga of Tanya the Evil & A Song of Ice and Fire): Thanks to her aggression during their training sessions, the redcloaks dub Brienne the "Terror of Tarth".

Bleach

  • The Black Wrangler: The titular character (real name Kaichou Kurosaki) took on her alias under the belief that Soul Reapers should distance themselves from such ties; she only reveals her true name to those she feels close to.

A Certain Magical Index

  • A Certain Droll Hivemind: Aino Sumiko, Misaka-11111's classmate with the Meltdown ability, is known as 'The Suicider' due to her self-inflicted injuries from her powers growing out of control. Misaka-11111 herself is called 'The Stungun', due to being weaker than 'The Railgun'.
I also appear to have been given a codename. I am apparently 'the Stungun'. This is unorthodox because I have not been informed of it by Academy City authorities. However, when I asked Yokouchi Toru if it was official, he confirmed that it was. He was the first one to begin using it, so if anyone knows if it is official, he would know.
We are considering if he may be lying when he says he was briefed on it secretly. We do not see what he has to gain by lying, though. The Network broadly approves of it, if it is official. We feel it is fitting, and pays homage to the Original while clearly indicating that we are inferior in our capacity to generate potential differences. I did not tell him that, though. I have not forgotten the warning about him given by Aino Sumiko. I will be prepared for 'his tricks'.

Code Geass

The Fairly OddParents!

  • Burning Black: Fairy World refers to Timmy as The One Who Stands Beyond Death's Reach; Remy, after investigating Timmy's falsified history, dubs him the Black Hound and starts calling him 'mongrel' to his face. Crocker calls him New Timmy.

Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire

  • Chasing Dragons:
    • Robert Baratheon is known as "Robert the Strong", "Robert the Brief", and "Robert the Bloody". Which one a person uses says a lot about how they view him.

    • Jaime Lannister becomes known as the "Black Lion" for the black cloak he wears to mourn his uncle Tygett after he's slain at the Battle of Tara.

  • Purple Days: Joffrey earns a couple over the course of many iterations of the "Groundhog Day" Loop, including the Bloody Lion and Stormking.

Godzilla

  • Abraxas (Hrodvitnon):
    • Several if not all of the Titans — including Monster X within a few months of the world becoming aware of it — have numerous names. Besides the Titans' canon titles from the MonsterVerse canon and other licensed Godzilla continuities, Ghidorah has a good few fittingly ominous titles, Mothra is called the All-Mother, and Godzilla is called the Deep One by Ghidorah.
    • Humans with the hereditary ability to communicate with Titans are known by various names among the Titans themselves depending on the Titan in question; including Bone Singers, Corpse Whisperers, Grave Chanters and Those Who Speak To The Gods/Spirits.

How to Train Your Dragon

  • Hiccup in Persephone is known as the Dragon Master because of the mistaken impression that he's leading the dragon raids. He and Astrid go over the list of aliases she's accumulated since becoming his accomplice and she's not impressed with most of them ("Dragon Master's Whore" being one), except maybe "Valkyrie of Destruction."

The Hunger Games

    • Circe is dubbed "the Witch of the Woods", due to her Magical Romani appearance and skills.
  • We Must Be Killers: Devon is called "The Kissing Killer" after seducing four of his companions as part of his strategy (he drew the line at doing this with his district partner) and killing two of them during makeout sessions.

Invader Zim

  • The Violet Demon: Participants in Aerax's Gladiator Games are given catchy epithets as advertising, such as Gornakk 'The Crusher" or Gaz's own "The Violet Demon"; she finds the concept stupid, saying it makes her sound like a teenage edgelord.

The Locked Tomb

  • it's about the bones: As usual, the Saints get titles.
    • The irony of Mercymorn being the Saint of Joy gets brought up.
Sure, you get the vague hint that Mercymorn isn't your biggest fan. But as it turns out, Mercymorn isn't a big fan of anything at all, really. She lives in a constant state of irritation with everything around her. When Teacher mentions in passing, during one of your tea parties, that he intended for the titles to refer to the cavalier rather than the necromancer, you slump so visibly with relief that God offers you another biscuit.
    • The new Lyctors are too young to have titles yet.
Harrow the First, ninth of his necrosaints, his sacred Hand, harbinger of the Rising River, Saint of to be determined.
(I've been workshopping ideas. Saint of Mojo? Saint of Biceps, for peak irony? Jeannemary, I know you'd back me. Ain't nobody got me like best teen Jeannemary got me.)
    • Harrow does think of a decent one, while in the one place that Gideon can't hear her thoughts.
Gideon's pleased little smile only widens. Her sad eyes are Harrow's eyes, as black as Drearburh. "Because, dark chrysanthemum of my heart," she says, "ancient Ninth House proverb - ride or die."
Saint of Devotion, Harrow thinks. She releases one hand, and Gideon anticipates her, hauling Harrow in by the link that remains. She wraps her arms around Harrow, and Harrow hooks her skinny arm around the back of Gideon's neck, and they hold each other as they fall like stars.

Lyrical Nanoha

  • In Game Theory, the Wolkenritter all have titles associated with their roles, which they are more commonly known by throughout dimensional space. Signum is "the Blade", Vita is "the Breaker", Zafira is "the Hound", and Shamal is "the Healer".

Marvel Cinematic Universe

  • The Night War reveals that Bucky Barnes' sniper campaign earned him the nickname of 'Schädeljäger' among the Germans. This translates to 'Skull-Hunter', for his supposed proclivity for targeting the skulls on SS caps (the in-text historical annotation observes that those caps weren't actually worn into battle), and for headshots in general. It became a part of Allied propaganda, and while Barnes' journal makes clear that he deeply disliked the nickname, (though he appropriated it at one point), the in-text historical notes reveal that the 107th became known as 'the Skull-Hunters'.

My Little Pony

  • Ace Combat: The Equestrian War: The main heroines, Mirage squadron, are dubbed "Angels of Equestria" by Cheerilee and the fillies. There's also Mobius, whom Echo calls "Heavenly Ribbon". By the end of the story, Rainbow Dash gains an impressive monicker "Princess of the Skies".
  • A Diplomatic Visit: Princess Celestia, as noted in chapter 27, is known as the "Teacher of the World".
  • Escape from the Moon: In the sequel The Mare From the Moon, it's revealed that in her native dimension, Spliced was dubbed the “Viral Maniac” for her crimes.
  • Harmony Theory: Charisma is called "The Asskicker" by her enemies.
  • The Immortal Game: After her Split-Personality Merge and the restoration of her true personality and power, Twilight Sparkle take up the title of "The Godslayer". This serves the dual purpose of making her appear both a symbol of hope for the Loyalists and a figure of fear for the Royals.
    • Rarity gains the moniker of "Dragonslayer" after striking the finishing blow on the green dragon during the Battle of the Everfree.
  • Night of the Shy: Princess Sunride, one of Celestia and Luna's predecessors, is known to history as the "Mad Princess" because she went Ax-Crazy and wiped out the Sand Mantas (save one). It's strongly implied that she was yet another possession victim of Nightmare.
  • The Pieces Lie Where They Fell:
    • Of the guard Captains, Standing Wall is the Bane of Minotaurs and Blazen Sun is the Bane of Dragons. Their superior, Captain General Step, is known as the Bane of Tartarus (doubling as Names to Run Away from Really Fast).
    • Night Blade earns one after his brutal slaughter of Sharp Point’s mercenary allies - the "Butcher of the Everfree Forest". He is less than thrilled by it.

  • In Under the Northern Lights, Twilight Sparkle learns to her dismay that the cynical reindeer of Tarandroland think that she and the other bearers of the Elements of Harmony are some kind of controlled super-villains Celestia keeps around to combat worse things and keep Equestria a nice place. Twilight herself, "the most powerful and evil sorceress in the world", is called "Skinfaxi's Shadow", Skinfaxi being the reindeer name for Princess Celestia.

Naruto

  • In Dreaming of Sunshine:
    • Shikako Nara picks up a couple. First, "Corpse Princess (Shikabanehime)", a pun of her name that she inadvertently created, which comes from her seeming ability to survive certain death (seriously, she's harder to kill permanently than a cockroach, just ask The Sound Five, Haido, half the Hidden Grass Village, and the Cult of Jashin). On the other hand, she's known as "Shikako Shadow Killer" after her fight with Gaara during the Grass Chuunin Exams, though that also started off as a joke by Kiba.
    • Team Seven as a whole (in addition to each of the individual members) also gets some notoriety as "The Lucky Sevens", which refers to their ability to run into every possible line of bullshit on almost every single mission, to the point that The Mission Desk Ninja think they and everything they touch are cursed, the Patrol Corps don't want to work with Sasuke at all, and multiple ninja just assume that even their routine missions have some hidden problem or murder attempt that got smoothed over. Bonus points because the Hokage herself gave them that name.
Tsunade: "You three are like Lucky Sevens. When you turn up, I just know things are about to go to hell."
  • In Glass Marionette, Kankuro becomes known as 'Kankuro of the Glass' due to creating several puppets out of stained glass, including the scout-slash-assassin Tsubaki and Glass Cannon Ajisai.

One Piece

  • A Crew for a King: When the Straw Hats' post-Alabasta bounties are posted, in addition to Luffy and Zoro getting their canon monikers, Johnny and Yosaku are dubbed "Sword of the Sea" and "Sword of the Earth", respectfully, while Nojiko gains the epithet "Hawkshot".
  • The Logia Brothers:
    • While Luffy, Nami, and Sanji keep their canonical epithets, the other Straw Hats gets new ones — Zoro is known as "Santōryū" (Three Sword Style), Usopp is known as "Quadruple Guns" (because of his trademark style of essentially juggling four revolvers so he can keep up a constant stream of fire), and Chopper is known as "Beast Doctor". Mikita/Miss Valentine is already known as "Courier" when she meets the crew, but is given the new epithet of "Crushing Fists" after the events in Alabasta.
    • We learn the epithets of several of the Baroque Works members when King Cobra cashes in on their bounties — Daz Bonez/Mr. 1 is "The Killer", Zala/Miss Doublefinger is "Poison Spider", Drophy/Miss Merry Christmas is "Town-Collapser", and Babe/Mr. 4 is "Catcher-Killing".
    • Sabo and Koala reveal that Marianne/Miss Goldenweek was known as "Flag-Bearer of Freedom" before joining Baroque Works.

    • Nami goes from "Cat Burglar" to "Weather Witch" after she destroyed ten Navy ships single-handedly.
    • Chopper is now treated as a legitimate pirate threat as the "Spark of Genius".
    • This time the World Government knows Usopp is "Sniper King".
    • Bartolomeo got an earlier start in his pirating career and is known as "Black Bart" instead of "the Cannibal". That became the name of his ship.
    • After claiming the remains of Strong World as her domain and becoming a Warlord, Perona is promoted from "Ghost Princess" to "Hellbeast Princess". She would have been the "Hellbeast Queen", but she insisted on being called a princess.
    • Gecko Moria's title was never given in One Piece, but in this story, Dr. Hogback referred to him as the "Umbral Allfather".
    • A list for the new Straw Hat epithets (containing spoilers): "Voices of Anarchy" Jeremiah Cross and Soundbite, "Corsair Princess" Nefertari Vivi, Carue "the Duck", "Man of the Sea" Boss Dugong, "Disciples of the Sea" Teenage Dugong Warrior Squad (including "Half-Shell Blade" Leo), "Angel of Destruction" Conis, "Cottontail" Su, "White Menace" Going Merry.

The Owl House

  • Legend of the Gravesfield Witch has Luz, as a result of the events of Chapter 4, gain the title The Titan's Heart on her posters (distinct from the wanted posters) calling her The Titan's Heart. She's quite fine with the title.

Pokémon

  • Nuzlocke Comics spinoff Apocalypse Johto has Candace "The Zangoose" Ogawa. The name is given to her by Silver, who is himself known as "Seviper".
  • Some Gym Leaders in Pokémon Reset Bloodlines have pretty cool nicknames, such as Erika "Kanto's Nature-Loving Princess", Lt. Surge "the Lightning Unovan", Volkner "the Shocking Star of Sunyshore" and Elesa "The Shining Beauty".
  • In the Poké Wars Expanded Universe, Dawn gets the nickname "Blue Death" in the story Dawn of a New Era. She doesn't like the nickname.

Rango

  • Old West:
    • Ramirez Arvenga prefers himself being called "El Azote Negro" or "The Black Scourge". Jake regards him too spineless to live up to the title.
    • The Gunslinger Court is composed of outlaws who are best at what they do, and they seem to have a trend for badass nicknames. There's "the Grim Reaper" (Jake), "the Carpenter" (Reth), "the Scarlet Kiss" (Delilah Rangler), "the fire breather" (Irvin Worst), "the fickle thief" (Johan Quall) and "the knife nut" (Kepper).

Ranma ½

RWBY

Sanctuary

  • The Sanctuary Telepath: Lampshaded by Janine, as she mentions several times that she has no idea how did she get the titular name when she spent the better part of the last century working not even close to either of the Sanctuaries, sometimes actively avoiding them. She assumes it has something to do with her close relationship with the founders of the network, even if her only involvement in the foundation was that she was there.

The Secret World of Alex Mack

  • The Secret Return of Alex Mack: Lord Rupert Giles, in his younger years, picked up the nickname 'Ripper', and "not because of a fondness for seamstress work."

A Song of Ice and Fire

  • The King Nobody Wanted:
    • Khal Preisoo is commonly referred to just as "the Headtaker" by other Dothraki, due to his habit of taking his opponents' heads and hanging them from his belt.
    • The Lazhareen prophet who is uniting his people against the weakened Dothraki is referred to exclusively as the Golden Ram.

Sonic the Hedgehog

  • In Sonic X: Dark Chaos, Tsali is known and feared as "The Black Wind". Allysion calls Sonic "the Antichrist" and the "Son of Perdition". She's technically not wrong.

Star Trek

Star vs. the Forces of Evil

  • Aside from the canon examples listed (well, those that made it in, anyway), Queens of Mewni also listed a number of other queens and princesses with aliases: Urania the First One, Solena the Smitten, Jokinna the Joy of the Kingdom, Estelaria the First Star, Redwarf the Advisor, Hemera the Builder, Nixie the Queen Poisoner, Cosmica the Explorer, Polaria the Navigator, Febe the Red One, Asteria the Mother of Stars, Hope the Gossip Girl, Etheria the Knight, Noturna the Missing, Nebula the Lady of Three Names, Galaxia the Clairvoyant, Venus the Fairest, Minguanta the Bland, Helia the Light of Power, Celestia the Queen of Winter, Meteora the Relentless (not Eclipsa's daughter), Hekatia the Necromancer, Luna the Child, Heaven the Scared, Vesper the Morning Star, Melody the Kidnapped, Hesperia the Singer of Dusk, Sideria the Fortunate, Diana the Huntress, Sky the Weaver, and Aurora the Queen of Dawn. In addition, Meteora (Eclipsa's daughter) gains the sobriquet the Heinous, Comet, besides her canon one "The Chef", is also called the Regent because she served as regent for her niece Moon, whom she adopted, and Star ends up becoming known more as Star the Rebel rather than the Underestimated due to her actions in the series.

Star Wars

Sword Art Online

  • In Nightblade, Rythin earns the title 'Diamond Tactician' thanks to his diamond-laced gloves and skill in planning boss fights. He complains about it when he first hears it because he thinks it sounds stupid.
Rythin: (In a mocking tone) "Ooh, I'm so smart and shiny, please talk about my physical characteristics."
  • Many a story will see Fuurinkazan dubbed 'The Immortal Guild', due to not even one of their members being lost to the Death Game in spite of being on the front lines of the clearers.

Other

  • The Hacker character from SonAmyFan362's stories is the World's Fighting Champion, better known by his Ring Name, Vegeta. It is apparent that not too many fighters are willing to accept his challenge.
